Has anybody use the Quadzilla 4L80E from Performance Automotive? The trans that does'nt
need a computer to run? Is the price (3,055.00) worth it? I,m planning to use it in my '67. Thanks.

I have heard they are strong, but why give up the coolest part of the transmission? It is so cool to get in and "tune" a transmission. I think Bowler has the skinny on making them strong, and keeping the computor. then put a Twist Machine paddle shifter on it, and you have the snaz!

Yeah, the price isn't bad once you figure you don't have to add a controller, but unless it has a way for you to fully program the shifts I'd pass. I'm with Frank, the tuning ability is one of the biggest benefits, and I also love the Shrifter.

I can get a 4L80E from a Sierra 3500 truck, it still runs and the trans feels strong. Your'e saying that all I need are the electronics and install it and I"m ready to go? Do you recommend rebuilding the trans?

Were running a take out unit right now behind a 650HP blower motor. I will let you know how long it last! TCI makes a box to do the transmission controls. Come with a harness and is laptop programable. You can change **** points for different driving. Coolest thing ever. Box runs around $600 or so. If you decide to do something let me know, I can get you the box.

And to answer your question, i would try it like it is. They are pretty hearty transmissions.

I'm thinking you misspelled "shift" Frank! :clonk:

Is it possible to put a full manual valve body in one of these (4L80E)??

I had a full manual valve body in my old THM400 and I loved it. The difference was that car had 3:73 gears behind a big block. This one has 4:10 gears behind a small block and a T-10 4 speed.

I love full manual valve body's. You get the best features of an automatic without having to use a clutch. Can you put one in this type of trans?

If you're interested in the electronics let me know, I'm a WD for TCI and will be able to price as competitively as you'll ever find. Jody knows! ;)

I saw that the 4L80E Quadzilla has a full manual valve body, That means no E!! NICE!! They include the core charge and a torque converter. I wonder what the stall is? But all in all $3,095 is a good price for a 4L80E. Who needs a computer to shift a trans? Heck No!! Give me a full manual valve body anyday!! It gives you the performance & consistency of an automatic with the fun of a stick shift WITHOUT the clutch. To quote Austin Powers "Yea Baby" "Yea"!!

... the fun of a stick shift WITHOUT the clutch

Stomping the clutch is half the fun!

The only place I really hate the clutch is rush hour traffic. At least I hate my rustang daily driver's clutch in traffic--the LS7 clutch in my '68 vert isn't bad at all.
