Well, had a great time at a track day at Thunder Hill on Friday. Had a little brake fluid smoke from the heated brake fluid after a master cylinder replacement the day before, but no further brake problems after that.

The real problem showed up after the 3rd session. I started to go out for the 4th run and when I put it in gear, it didn't want to go anywhere(700r4). Then it started moving after a few seconds. did the next two runs and started to head home. It was smoking a bit and I seemed to have lost 1st and 4th gear. I had to start moving in 2nd and it would shift to 3rd. I drove all the way home (140miles) in 3rd. I got 1st back by manually putting it in 1st, it seems to shift through the gears, but no 4th. The fluid smells bad and burnt.

The whole course is run in 3rd gear, and my water temp never got above 200*, and I have a tranny cooler as well. Did my 450hp/466 383 prove to be too much for the tranny?

That's just it, we never could figure out where it was leaking from. The smoke seemed to be coming from lower than the distributor. Was it being expelled from the nose of the torque converter?

it could be, the only time ive known a tranny to be leaking from the front was on a muncie that someone put atf in and it would leak out of the front shaft and onto the clutch. and also what are the mods to your 700r4? if it dosnt have any mods to it i hear the stock ones cant take much abuse.

As many on this board have said, it was supposed to have been "built" It had all the mods (Corvette servo, Beast sun shell, 10 vane pump, billet this and that, etc)

I'm going to try to get it to a shop this week we'll see what the "autopsy" reveals.

Could have been leaking out the overflow tube up on the top of the transmission. (Very possible if the transmission fluid got extremely hot).

When you get it back, I would put on a deep pan if you don't have one already as well as a temp guage and the biggest transmission cooler you can find. These transmissions (any transmission for that matter) are extremely sensitive to heat. It doesn't matter if you had all the best parts in it, the high heat is what kills the clutches, even the performance ones.

Get a trans temp guage. I've been reading, alot of people are having problems with the 700's, they can't take much abuse. Just sent mine back to B.T.O. something broke inside. Good luck.
