: Weekend Painting Project
DougP Oct 15th, 06, 07:09 PM Had a successful time this past weekend working with my buddy on his 71 Camaro -- we've been working on it for a while and got it painted and started putting things back together. Once we get this car done all our attention will be directed towards my 69. I've already ordered my rear quarters, hood and drivers side door shell -- should be here this week. Keepin' busy in between beers!! :beers:

camaroman7d Oct 15th, 06, 10:07 PM Great work. What kind of primer and paint? Single or two stage? We need details.
c1run1 Oct 15th, 06, 11:05 PM looking good
DougP Oct 16th, 06, 05:46 AM We used a hi-build sealer primer, sanded with 220, then 320, (then used tack cloth, prep sol, usual stuff..) -- used Dupont basecoat/clearcoat --- two coats of Daytona Yellow, then two coats of clear -- havent wet sanded or buffed anything yet, but we will probably get to that sometime this week. Gotta get this 2nd gen done so we can get after my 69 --- gonna have to start monitoring my parts and beer inventory pretty closely so work can proceed accordingly!!!

DougP Oct 23rd, 06, 06:39 AM A little more progress made on my buddy's 71 Camaro. We got the bumpers back from the chrome shop and will be putting them on this week. The interior will be back from the shop tomorrow and we'll have it in before the weekend. Almost done -- which means we can get rollin' on my 69.

Everett#2390 Oct 23rd, 06, 09:38 AM I believe the poster above the TV of "Haulin' Butt" is very well executed, along with the paint job on the car.
Looks nice!

Thanks! Yep, we painted it in the garage and it does get its share of dirt and dust but the thin mil plastic does a real good job in minimizing it as well as the overspray. Funny story -- in between coats of clear a mosquito landed on the fender and got stuck there. Had to use tweezers and a steady hand to get him off before we sealed him there forever!! :)

Thanks -- actually my buddy Jimmy is the best painter in our group of friends. I handle most of the body work and help with the primer but we leave the color to him. We have done a number of cars -- our own, (see the Camaro and Nova in my signature) and for a couple of our friends. If you are considering painting your car, I say you should do it. There is a lot of information on prep and paint, both on this site and elsewhere on the Internet. I learn by doing (which means making mistakes and trying not to repeat them). Do you research and take your time and go for it.

Thanks. The picture you refer to was taken at a car show we attended this past summer. I posted a thread on it a while ago. Lets just say there were plenty of opportunities to take intersting pictures (which, by the way, I have on CD :D )
