I replaced the steering rack and tie rod ends on my '94 V6 Camaro. Had it aligned and all seemed well for the first couple of days. I then noticed after driving a few miles at 60mph or so when I slowed down the P/S pump was growling. I headed on home and popped the hood to find the pump was extremley hot but the fluid looked fine, no bubbles, correct level. I decided the pump was just shot since it was original to the car so picked up a reman unit from NAPA. Put the new pump on and in a couple of days the same thing happens only this time the pump gets so hot it locks down and shreads the belt. Napa has me another on order but I'm beginning to suspect the rack. The steering is great until the pump starts growling. Can the rack be bad and still seem to be working fine.
