Guys:
This may be another stupid question from a newbie but here goes anyways :clonk: I positively dislike nasty ash trays and although the previous owner did not smoke for 20 years the ashtrays have obviously been used. Can I just take them out, mask them off and blast them or do I need to paint them as well? If I need to paint them can someone recommend the correct paint to use?
Thanks

Why not just buy a new one. When I got my car the ash tray was stuffed chock-full of butts. I never seen an ash tray with so many butts. Anyway, I threw the thing out and bought a new one.

Mark, I had my ash trays blasted and then painted black with regular spray paint (Krylon). They turned out great. I never plan on using them.......otherwise the paint would just get ruined.

I sand blasted mine and painted them with silver hi-temp engine paint. They look great and I don't smoke so no worries about wear.

Guys:
I blasted mine today and they came out okay. I will look for a good paint for them or else I may try zinc plating. Either I'm defective or my AIM is (I'm guessing it's probably me :( ) because I do not see the finish requirement in my AIM. If anyone sees this please point me in the right direction.

Hang on just going to roll a smoke....
Now cant find the filters....
Cool addiction taken care of ...
Blasting takes off the galv, scrubb up with a strong son of dish wash machine powder and tooth brush....if u use the wifes make sure it is not to well cleaned when u put ity back other wise she will notice something is up j/k
If it doesnt come back up near new, a couple teaspoons of citic acid from the spive cupboard in a 1/4 cup of warm water, give a light scrub and leave till dry in a cool place, then buff with a soft brass wire brush (tooth brush size)
The citic acid is good for cleaning the outside of carbs/dizzys etc...1st clean with thiners then the citric acid
