My 12-bolt rear end is leaking from where the springs bolt to the axel on the passenger side. I cleaned the area this weekend and refilled the case. The oil seems to be comming from somewhere between the two U-bolts.
Any idea what this is? How difficult is it to pull the axel?
Thanks

Sounds like the housing has a crack in it at the spring perch.
The perch starts to pull away from the housing at the front of the perch and causes the housing to crack and leak.
This is fairly common and an easy fix but does need to be welded.

I agree. I have seen this before. I have a 12 bolt housing from a '69 Z28 that had the spring perches almost completely ripped off. Wheel hop is usually the cause on a street car. Get it fixed before it gets too bad to repair. Check the angle of the spring perch before it is rewelded and correct it if necessary.

I have the same problem on a 12 bolt...can anyone recommend someone in the Detroit area who can weld this properly?
