I have this (mechanic) working on my 69 and he has done everything..motor, subframe powdercoating, rear end, custom fab for the fourth gen interior and so on. The problem is I need him to complete what is left without getting me into other ares, like exhaust and interior, just finish the motor, wiring and ac stuff. I found out today (after telling him what I wanted completed before any more ordering) he goes and orders hooker super comp headers and flowmaster system without my consent. I told him to send it back, it just seems he is getting very pushy (I guess he thinks he's foose or boyd) and I have the open checkbook. What I need is ideas on how to get him to get some of these things completed so I can pay on Fri (like I do every week) and load my car and get the hell out!! (with all my paid parts intact)

It's your car, you can pay the bill and take it any time you want ...

Don't you have a contract, or work order, stating the original scope of the work to be done?
If not, it's way past time to establish one to bring your money-pit to and end ...

Tell him exactly what you wrote here. Tell him to complete the things you want done, load up your car and then get the hell out !! I hoped you had written estimates or some type of work order to be completed?

Yep. Try and get it out fast. When they start ordering parts behind your back it spells trouble. Your bill will double, triple, quadruple or more. I know some people who this has happened to. It gets really ugly.

Well I have spent ALOT more with this guy than planned. He laughs when I tell him I have a budget. I know it's hard but when you have a family..sometimes toys have to wait.

Tell him the "wife" said NO MORE... and that he doesnt want to bring her into the discussion and that you will finish it up from there as time and budget allows. The Mrs. is always a good excuse to stop. We all know the "look" right?

When he laughs tell him to STFU and you are taking the car. That pretty rude if you ask me.

Well at least when I was there today(I do not work but only ten days a month) at least he was refusing HIS UPS order of the headers and exhaust. He just doesn't know I will be using the exact exhaust system, but in MY time and My plan. See I blame all the car tv shows giving some people that want to restore old cars outrageous expectations. Some of us do live in the real world...
