: Garage find, what's it worth?
L72/RS Oct 18th, 06, 07:22 PM I found a replacement 302 engine while cleaning part of my garage and just want some opinions on what it might be worth.
casting number = 3970014
cast date = F-29-72
deck stamp = CEA2214
It has 1178 crank/L-2210A STD pistons/"O"rods/7173 balancer with 360 dgree timing marks. It also has a set of L-2209A pistons that the previous owner removed when the L-2210A's were installed. It also has the windage tray and oil pan.
Bore has no ridge and the L-2209A pistons don't have any scuffs on the skirts.
I opened the other boxes and found the heads = #186 dated G-21/24-9.
Thanks in advance for you help.

Mortec lists this as a 350 70-76, 2 or 4 bolt main.. Would match up with the casting date of 1972. Don't think its a 302.

Do you have a pic of the crankshaft flange?
L72/RS Oct 19th, 06, 06:46 AM It is a 302.
Service replacement engines use the block casting/revision that is in production at the time the engine was assembled.
I give the example of my friends 69 Vette. The original engine was a #512 casting. When he grenaded the engine, it was replaced with a #289 casting at the dealership. The #289 was never originally used for 427 engines.
Thanks for the input.

Rocketrod Oct 19th, 06, 09:52 AM I found a replacement 302 engine while cleaning part of my garage and just want some opinions on what it might be worth....
Just how big is your garage?
L72/RS Oct 19th, 06, 11:52 AM Rod,
At one time I had 8 camaros plus parts in it, many years ago. As I sold them off, I filled the spaces up with parts. Now I am just tired of having to move something to walk thru it.
Last month I had to move fifteen 12-bolt rears to find a BT coded one for a friends Nova.
I still haven't found the L-79 engine that I started looking for.
Anyone got an idea of what that 302 engine might be worth?
Thanks again,
Eric
camaromaniac Oct 19th, 06, 12:03 PM Well first off, your market/end user is likely someone who has an X33, X77 or LA built Z28 without it's original 302, or someone that wants a serious Z28 clone. The drawback is it being a CE block, with no manifolds, carb & pistions, etc., I would guesstimate it's value at $1,500. Charlie
Camuchi Oct 19th, 06, 12:33 PM I volunteer to help clean out the garage:thumbsup:
namz111 Oct 19th, 06, 01:23 PM I will take a 12 bolt off your hands, It will be one less to move or step over.

Eric,
Well since your giving stuff away, I'll take the block and crank off your hands so you no longer have to trip over it. :waving:
cd playa Oct 19th, 06, 02:01 PM must be nice to have a garage to fit 8 cars plus... that would be a dream.
i would live in their.
rafbody Oct 19th, 06, 02:09 PM The block being a CE block dated 1972, I don't thing it is worth any more than any other 1972 350 block. The value of the actual 302 parts would depend on the condition of those parts. JMHO
thewebb1 Oct 19th, 06, 03:25 PM 8 car garage
8 Camaros
Filled with parts
Found a LOST 302
Any chance you have a friend called FireBall2?
Remember the kid who called wolf!
Now I can't trust anything I read:clonk:
L72/RS Oct 19th, 06, 08:11 PM Thank you guesstimate Charlie. I will use you estimate as a reserve. I will list it with a pair of 4295's and see what does.
And thanks to everyone else who offered to help clean.
A FireBall2 is a Crane camshaft as far as I know.
And everyone knows there aren't any wolves around here.
The 8 car is the detached garage, (the house has a 4 car attached).
I had 8 camaros before I got married, and sold them one by one. A wife and kids are exspensive.
The only cars I have left are two camaros (a Z10 and a RS/COPO), a 1960 283/270 Vette, and a 1938 Chevy Sedan.
Thanks again,
Eric
