Thanks for your help. click Oct 20th, 06, 07:50 AM You can search in this forum for 'insurance' and read a ton of threads about insurance questions but most collector insurance wont cover your son driving it until he is 21 with no accidents in his first 5 years of driving either. Regular car insurance wont cover the full value of your camaro if it was totaled too. Its sad but our young kids just dont rate highly in this area of liability. Check with Hagerty and Grundy but dont hold your breath. He might just have to ride along all the time. My 2 daughters had to do just that. BonzoHansen Oct 20th, 06, 08:08 AM Hagerty = No. DjD Oct 20th, 06, 09:02 AM I don't think you will find classic car ins that will cover your son with an agreed value policy which is what is preferred to insure you are protected for the value of the vehicle. We will be using the '72 Nova as a driver once my daughter gets her license... What we will be doing is adding her as the primary to the Nova on my policy with a stated value of $15k (not sure it's worth that but Mercury said they would allow that much). As you probably know being primary doesn't exclude you from coverage when driving the other cars on the policy. Having her as primary on the oldest of the 3 driver cars is actually saving me several hundred over putting her as primary on the 2000 Impala. I digress... The Nova is over insured in the stated value as I paid $6500 for it and only have another $2000 into it. If totaled I should be able to get about $10K for it from the ins for the next year or so. I use an independant ins broker and this was his recomendation after seeing the car. He delt with Mercury on the stated value, they used a gold book to or some other guide to come up with the stated value... If your Camaro is worth $20K or more this would not be the best way to go... |
