Todd, the first 2 are bogus the second 2 adds are legit. You say the third one is an SS but the seller doesn't, just has the SS cap.

I would pass on that last one, anyone who lists a car with that kind of attitude is not worth dealing with..........IMHO!!!!

This may be legit but you'll have $15K or more into it before you ever turn the key and drive it and it won't be painted at that point...

Scam or a total basket case...

http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sfc/car/223592956.html 68 SS Camaro for 9k
No contact info... my guess is you'll find expensive problems but I'd go look at this one...

Your going to go see this car and the seller is going to be in your face about you wasting his time. If you crawl under the car he's going to mock you for wanting to look. Call him and see if he'll let you look, he expects a "I'll take it" over the phone. It's an unfinished project on a trailer... Don't expect to drive it home.

During my recent past search I found 80% of the cars on craigs list the seller never even e-mailed or called me back. Every single car I did look at was not as described, all were in far worse shape.

I did find a '68 for $5500 that probably was a good deal but I had a gut feeling saying not to buy it. I talked to the seller the next day and it was sold, the buyer didn't even look at the car, just showed up with a check and a flat bed. Never started it, never lifted the hood or anything. It would have taken about $5k to make it a driver and then it would still need painted and more...

If you really want a 1st gen you need to figure out how much you can afford. Then figure out if you want it to be a project on jack stands in the garage or a car you can drive. Then get an idea of what it needs and what it will cost in parts and labor. Example, you can buy a headliner for about $150 but for a headliner and the labor to install it plan on $400 or so. Seatbelts could cost you $20 each for generic off the shelf at kragen or about $300 or so for a complete set of reproduction Camaro belts.

You need to be able to look at a car and add it all up in your head so you have an idea of what your real cost will be to get it to a point that it's where you can use it or where you want it to be as a finished car.

You need to watch the ads every day and send a lot of e-mails and make a lot of phone calls and plan on a lot of site seeing trips. Go into it thinking each car you go look at isn't going to be the one. Expect it to be a turd and you won't be dissapointed and feel like you wasted your time when you are on your way home without it. If you go each time thing "this one has to be it" you will be filled with dissapointment and the search will get old in short time. You'll end up settling for something and end up not where you wanted to be...

Here's a car I have seen before. It's been forsale for a long time. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/222995669.html The guy is clearing lot space because he's loosing the lot. The car was a bit too much of a hotrod for my taste but not in bad shape. You might want to take a look and offer him $10K reminding him you know someone looked at the car 4 months ago... Oh and if you do go look at it look around in the garage for a 1st gen under a tarp and let me know if it's still there. He told me he sold it to a neighbor after I made him an offer for it.

Here's one I would try to look at as well, it's a big bumper car but still smog inspection exempt and even if you don't get to see it, print the ad out and take it with you when you go look at the one above. http://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/car/222428664.html

Thank you for all of your input. Your quick responses assist me in smoking out the garbage (especially the project cars, or whatnot...I got similar feelings to what you said, but it is harder for me to judge that kind of stuff).

I agree about the one seller in particular, such an ass that he will most likely get in the way of his first gen even if it is a great deal.

I still think my best bet is going to be me seeing a simple 'for sale' sign in a camaro while I drive down the street.
