Hello:
I want to get back to the correct Holley 780 on my 68 L78. Just a check on the correct part number. Is it 4053 DZ? I know I won't be able to have the correct date code but would like to at least get the correct part number.
Thanks for your help.

Yes that is the correct number... the correct date carbs are not too hard to come by... I have seen quite a few March April May June and July carbs on ebay in the last 6 months.

Mark;
What is the build date on your car? I might be able to help you out.

You can also get a new 4053DZ carb licensed by Holley, sold by Heartbeat City with all the stamping and no date code. They sell for around $600.

Eric; My car is an 06C car.
Max: Thanks for the reference to Heartbeat City. The cheapest I have seen the carb anywhere else is about $650.
To all: Will judges look unfavorably on a car with the correct carb but no date code, or will it not matter? The purist in me wants the correct date code, but the pragmatist in me says a new carb will be best. So the debate in the comittee in my head is do I get a date correct carb and have it restored by Jerry M. or someone similar, or do I just go with a new carb and sell the 4346 carb I have.
Thanks for the advice.

Mark,
Like I said on the CRG site, see what Eric has before you plunk down the $$$. He may have a date you can use. In your case, a 06C car could have a carb dated anywhere from early April to late June.
Regarding judging, it all depends on the class you enter. Some classes don't care about date codes while other do.
