Hi I have a 1995 Z28 the ABS light is on all the time I plugged in my OBD2 code reader into plug under dash on the drivers side the plug fits in perfect but it won't work and it is a 16 pin plug my OBD1 code reader won't fit. and under the hood the label says car is OBD1 certified do they make a OBD1 code reader with the same 16 pin plug as the OBD2 as I want to scan the ABS system and is it possible on whatever system? OBD1 or OBD2 to change the shift points in the transmission it's a LT1 Motor and a 460 LE trans and what code reader do i need that takes the OBD2 plug but runs a OBD1 system or is there a separate code reader or scanner that does the ABS alone http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/images/smilies/confused.gif

95's are tough. I'm not sure how to solve your problem, some softa adapter maybe?
In 95, GM had all the ODB2 stuff installed, but the computers were still programed for ODB1. ODB2 went online in 96.

To add to what Jim said. OBDII began phase-in in 1994 and was completed in 1996. The mandate was that all vehicles sold in america had to be OBDII compliant by 1996. Passenger cars were the first to go. Most pickups didn't become OBDII until 96. In short, anything between 1994 and 1996 is a maybe.

Your right on both counts. The PCM is OBDI but has an OBDII socket to scan the PCM. I had a 95 Trans Am that had this setup as well. I just bought my own cable that hooked up to a serial on my laptop. Then you have you pick of software to purchase out there that works with the cable. There is also some free software out there too that works with the cable that allows you to monitor some cool things.

I bought the cable from here.

They have links to software that works with this cable. LT1edit is another PCM editing software that a lot of people use as well.
