: 1969 Z28 Carb. Holley 4053 #'s.....
W.A.C Oct 24th, 06, 08:18 AM Hello,
Without getting into a really long story. My original carb to my really original Z is missing and I do not know if it will ever pop up again. Yea I know, not good! I am about to take possession of a DZ carb that is not the original. The carb is basically the the correct carb for the motor but wrong date code. My question is....Does it "really matter" that I do not have the right date code on the carb?
The rest of this car is super original and correct down to the original starter, fuel pump, and 99% of the rest of the car. Would the wrong date coded carb devalue what I already have? If it does I will start searching. If it really does not matter in the grand scheme of things then I will be thrilled with what I have and just enjoy the car.
I think some of this stuff gets pretty silly after a while. But that is the way it is I guess since they are getting so valuable....
Thanks,
W.A.C.
DjD Oct 24th, 06, 08:52 AM You are the only one that it matters to WAC... If it drives you nuts knowing it's the wrong date then keep looking. If you are worried about the retail value and it's just the carb, then the car is worth what an orig Z is worth minus the cost of a correct date carb.
W.A.C Oct 24th, 06, 09:00 AM Dennis,
My thoughts exactly. I was just a little concerned about some day when I get rid of this thing if it will hurt me. But to me, as long its the correct DZ carb I could personally care less about the date.
BTW: nice vert!
Thanks,
WAC
Gambitt Oct 24th, 06, 11:36 AM I'm in the same boat. I lucked up on an original 4053. A friend of ours had it, it had been completely rebuilt, replated and looks better than it did when it was new. I got it for around $300. I couldn't turn it down. I can't remember the exact date code on it, but it falls in 68, while my car would have had a 69 dated carb on it. Am I going to kill myself trying to find the exact correct carb for it...I doubt it. Sometimes when you run up on a deal, or already have a nice part you just gotta use it and be happy...or at least I do on my budget:)

xplantdad Oct 24th, 06, 12:13 PM Eric is a great guy...did the resto on my carb. I couldn't be happier!:hurray:
Plus, you'd be hard pressed to find anyone else with better customer service:)
W.A.C Oct 24th, 06, 12:23 PM Well, my car was built 3rd week of September 1969.
The carb that is about to go on my car is a late 68 DZ 4053. Do not know the month...

Thanks. :)
WAC;
I know I don't have anything on-hand with a late `69 date, but I'll dig around and see if I can find anything for you if you'd like.

'69 Fathom Green Coupe 350 Oct 25th, 06, 05:08 PM I have a 0921 dated Holley Restored Carb. It looks better than the day it was new. Make me an offer,
I will tell you this, it needs to be well more than $700 because that's what I have in it. I can get pictures it's here at work with me. I was toying with the idea of using it on another project or selling it. No trades! email irwint@kcyutv.com
God Bless, Terry
W.A.C Oct 25th, 06, 05:30 PM Well before I go and make offers on carbs. I would like to hear more opinions about my original post.
Does it "really matter" that I do not have the right date code on the carb?

Gambitt Oct 25th, 06, 06:35 PM Turned out my carb is an 8A3...My car is an O4C, but I will probably go ahead and use it. The date for it will be off, and my M20 is a bit early, but I got a good deal on it too (free).
I can't really answer your question, but to me it isn't that big a deal...yeah, it would be nice if everything was perfect, but it won't be on my car and I am not going to let it bother me. If I were you I would use it. You can always replace it later if you run upon one.

kidder03 Nov 3rd, 06, 09:01 AM Does anybody know how soon before the engine assembly date, or car production date the carb should be? Like many others out there, my carb was thrown away by the last owner!!! My car is a 10C; early '69. Are there a series of numbers that one should look for, or will there be anomolies like there sometimes are with any casting / assembly process where you'll have one setup within the same week, and another setup spaced out 60 days?
rszmjt Nov 3rd, 06, 04:03 PM All the stuff on my Z is original ( except wheels), i have owned it since 73. My car is a 06A ( all June cars are 06A ). I figured out the build day as June 18th, car was shipped June 24th according to Canadian Documentation.
Most all the parts are dated May, except the trans P9D28 and the fan blade C-6-9 ( its original with the clutch ) and the diff is BU0602G2.
Carb is 9-5-2 ( 1969- May-2nd week) engine stamp is VO527DZ cast E-21-9. heads are E-14-9 and E-13-9.
Any other dates you need?
Hope this helps.

Sorry dont mean to hijack the tread, but how did you figure out the build day?
My Z is a 08C how would I know which day it was built?
Thanks,
Nick
rszmjt Nov 4th, 06, 01:29 AM Nick, actually i figured out the shipping day as June 24th, the actual Canadian GM docs show it as June 23rd. So i was off 1 day shoot me. LOL.
OK here is how it is done-
The CRG website shows the last car in July/69 as being #669119, so the first car in Aug./69 was 669120. Total production figures from CRG site are 9134 cars in Aug.69. Looking at a antique calender i came up with 21 working days for Aug./69. Divide 9134 by 21 and you have approx. 434 cars per day.
Take your vin then minus 669120 ( first car in Aug/69) and then divide that figure by 434 and this will approx. equal when your car was finished. For example-
671000 ( made up vin)
- 669120
=1880
divided by 434
=4.33 working days
This cars birthday if you will is Aug/6/69, looking at 4.33 work days into the month on a antique calender.
Add approx. 3-4 days till it was shipped.
If i have done this wrong hopefully Kurt will correct me.
Hope this helps. Mike.

Thank you,
