I was watching DIY's "Classic Car Restoration" episode (1962 Ford Thunderbird: Finishing Touches - Episode DCR-309) the other day. In the episode, they were installing undercover speakers which mount underneath each seat. Each enclosure contains one 5½" woofer (facing up) and twin piezo tweeters (one faces to the rear and the other to the front).

I found the link to their site:
http://www.casmfg.com/Camaro_Firebird_Speakers.htm

The speakers mentioned above (5½" woofer) cost ~$120 for the pair - and measure 3" high X 8-1/4" wide X 11-1/4" long. They sell another pair that includes 8" woofers as well - and measure 11"W x 12.5"D x 3"H.

1) Has anyone installed these before?
2) How do they sound?
3) Were they easy to install?
4) Would the other 8" woofer enclosure fit underneath a first gen Camaro seat?

Sounds like an alternative for rear speakers without cutting the interior or settling for the muffled sound with the top down with the rear speaker housings.

(In the episode they also installed a hidden receiver inside dash (that mounted to the regular radio via velcro) that is controlled by remote - with CD changer in trunk).

I have a pair in my '69. They are offered as part of the "Secret Audio" system of amp, receiver and CD player. What works best for me is just to have them sitting on the carpet in front of the rear seat. I hardly ever have back seat passengers, so that position works the best for me. I am a bigger guy so I keep my driver's seat all the way back and that keeps the box from flying around.

I did have them underneath both front seats but found the sound was extremely muffled from the seat cushion material. Plus it was a very tight fit. For me, the back seat floor works the best. At judged car shows, I just take them out, I have them connected to quick disconnects that are located under the carpet. I pull them out and shove the wires back under the carpet.
I use them in conjunction with my two rear deck speakers, the sound is a decent quality for such a small enclosed system.

I also have the "Secret Audio" CD player mounted underneath the rear package tray which allows me to retain the stock AM/FM radio in the dash.
I know a lot of the guys have different opinions about the "Secret Audio" components but for me they work and sound great. Nothing like the sound of ZZ Top accompanied by the tunes from the big block...............

Donald - could you send a photo of the rear under seat speaker system. I have a 69 convert and am trying to picture your look. Thanks for the help.

Hey Craig. When I get home tonight I will look through my pics and see if I have any. Currently the SS is being prepared for new paint and the interior was stripped down in the process. However, basically the speaker boxes were just sitting on the floor "behind" the front buckets in the footwells for the rear passengers. The speakers are black and I have a 729 interior so they blended in and were never noticed by the casual observer at a show. What I originally did was "mock up" a set in cardboard to see where they would fit. You can get the dimensions for the box on their website.
But I will look for pics and send you any I can find.
