I found a spring and a collar (with two set screws) in the bottom of my fuel tank and have no idea what they are for. I can't seem to figure out how to post a pic of them...

What year and make of car? vfam3 Oct 30th, 06, 11:01 AM I have a '69 RS Camaro. I pulled the sending unit out and it appears to be in tact and was working fine (aside from the disentegrated filter sock). I ordered a whole new sending unit from classic industries anyway. The spring and collar appear to be too big to belong to this assembly. The only location it appears to be able to fit is over the float foam???? The photo of the new unit does not show this spring/collar...I'm stumped. JimM Oct 30th, 06, 11:13 AM I don't recognize your description as anything that belongs anywhere near the gas tank on a firstgen. pics would help a lot. vfam3 Oct 30th, 06, 11:38 AM Let me know if this works! http://www.myspace.com/124448978 JimM Oct 30th, 06, 11:48 AM nope. You need to put the pic on the internet somewhere. Your personal storage with your isp, or a free photo site. Display it, copy the url, and past that into the picture link in your post here. Or just do a membership for $10 and you'll be able to attach pics. vfam3 Oct 30th, 06, 11:49 AM Jim, sent you a private email w/ photo attached. Camuchi Oct 30th, 06, 11:54 AM I bet you it is an old spring off a filler nozzle from the gas pump. Is the wire dia @ 1/16? I have one in my tank-How do I know? I broke it off in there around 1985 when I was in hurry filling up:clonk: plan to take it out during restoration. vfam3 Oct 30th, 06, 12:00 PM I think you're right. That's very funny. It's the only logical explanation. And the size is about right on. Hats off to you. JimM Nov 2nd, 06, 09:27 PM Gary sent me this pic to post. The quarter is to show size only. Anyone recognize that stuff? SixtyAte Nov 3rd, 06, 05:30 AM I remember years ago when the gas prices hit hard in early 70s, they sold a anti-siphon kit which had a spring and metal block off cap. It would prevent a hose being put into the tank to siphon gas however still allow the gas to enter the tank past the spring. Could this be remnants of that ype of device ? Kev deerhunter Nov 3rd, 06, 09:54 AM Has this car ever sat where there were kids? The reason I ask is because I have found rocks, coins, and even a key inside of a few tanks. 136679ss Nov 3rd, 06, 02:05 PM Has this car ever sat where there were kids? The reason I ask is because I have found rocks, coins, and even a key inside of a few tanks. Can I have my money and keys back please!!!! :D I would guess some smarta$$ kids dropped stuff in too. |
