Could a good blaster get the body as "clean" as dipping?
I know the car has some bond in it and I want it out!
Thanks for your input.

View Full Version : Sand blasting -vs- dipping... RFrenette May 29th, 01, 03:41 AM Could a good blaster get the body as "clean" as dipping? I know the car has some bond in it and I want it out! Thanks for your input. KURT May 29th, 01, 06:55 AM I think for doing the outside of the car blasting is much cheaper than dipping with basically the same results. If your car has alot of rust in the nooks an crannies then dipping is the way to go. When you get it back from dipping the entire car is rust and paint free. Plus you don't have all that sand to contend with. I got a price from redi strip for 1,000 for just the shell. doors were 125 per door x-tra. asumtoy540 May 31st, 01, 06:12 AM Dipping is alot cheaper than blasting.I got a price for media blasting just my body of 850.00.I dipped my body for 350.00. I took a car trailer full of parts to get dipped and the cost was 275.00 and there parts from two cars in the load. When you see a car that has been dipped in person you will never use blasting again.Alot of the body panels are double wall and blasting can do nothing to them. Brian Weil KURT May 31st, 01, 06:19 AM brian, where did you get your car dipped. That is a really cheap price. what chemical did they use to strip it. asumtoy540 May 31st, 01, 08:46 AM Kurt:Industrial Paint Stripping in Detroit Mich.My brother restores corvettes and turned me on to the place. There is always some type of car parts there when i drop off my stuff.I made a wood car gig to support the body and rolled it right into there shop. They do alot of work for ford motor co.The materials they use are a mixture.I have that info at home.It is part acid in one tank then they put the parts in a second tank to neutralize the acid and wash the parts. You can also have the parts oiled if they will be sitting for awhile before coating. Brian KURT May 31st, 01, 11:17 AM Mich. is a little to far for me to drive. The only place near me that I have found wants $1,000.00 for the shell. trentonZ28 May 31st, 01, 02:11 PM I had my subframe, springs, hood ,deck lid and other parts dipped.I couldn't believe how great they turned out. They put some sort of coating on to prevent rust, all you have to do is rinse the parts off when ready to use.The place in Cincinnati that I use recently raised their prices due to the cost of natural gas.The guy that owns the place showed me his gas bill,February was almost three times the cost of the previous month. It's still the way to go. |
