Hey..posted in second generation, but probably should be here.

I have the opportunity to buy a 70 RS SS that it all original, but needs paint and interior touch up...all numbers matching (according to owner which I will verify). 70's are new to me....always liked them, but have only had 1st generation cars. I think I can get this car for about 8k in running condition. Is this car worth throwing the money into to retore 100%. I can't tell what the value should be once done, as most I see for sale are Z28s that bring I'm sure the most money. This car is Cortez Silver and black int. It has AC and a 4spd. Does it sound like a good deal or not? What do you guys think it's value would be when restored? Just don't want to polish a terd if these aren't that desireable.
Thanks!!!
Mark

Just a 350 w/4spd. All numbers match on motor/trans/rear end etc.
I thought maybe 20-25k when restored? Don't know how many of these there are out there.
Thanks,
MK

You really dont SEE that many ORIGINAL Looking 70 R/S SS's around in my opinion..........therefore hard to know market value of nice restored one.....
I would certainly hope a 4-speed would command $25K given the misc inflated values of other Camaros...........Not sure if A/C holds price down or not.
Here is picture of my similar car w/o A/C ..............

Hey TDW....original paint still, just minor dings etc...no patch or bondo I'm told. I have to still inspect the car, but it is a CA car, and am told no rust.
Thanks,
MK

Hey CamaroRus. Nice car. I agree with you on value, my thought was that the 70 was the most valuable of the 2nd gen?? Are the wheels on your car the correct wheels for an RSSS? Also...did only Z's have the spoiler? The one I'm looking at does not have one either. Did you say AC would add or detract from the value? I thought it always added? Also has all CA smog stuff on it.
Thanks,
Mark

It's worth 8k in average/descent shape IMHO. Check around at nastyz28.com for more info.

It's worth alot more than 8 grand. I've had two first gens (both 1969) and two 3rd gen (1984 Z28 & 1988 5.7L IROC-Z).

I've seen a nicely restored 1970 RS/SS go for over 20 grand in my area and get it all day long. (Chi-town) 1970 is very desirable for the 2nd gen. It's the only year you could get the high back seats and get head rests with them. From 1971-1981 the seats did not come with headrests.

Check out www.nada.com (http://www.nada.com)

Here is the link to what that 1970 RS/SS would be worth with a 350, 4 spd and factory A/C.

I agree...It's worth much more than 8K. My guess is a LOW number for that car would be around 15-16K
