I have read many post regarding carpet installs, everyone says leave it in the sun for a couple of hours. I am installing new carpet and it is cold where I live and not much sun these days.
I have seen professional installers use a heat gun to get the carpet to lay down nice, is there a reason no one has mentioned this? Obviously you would want to keep the heat on low or far enough away so not to melt the carpet.
Just wondering if this is something to consider for my install.

Take the carpet inside the house, lay it on the floor and leave it for a day -- assuming you are installing it in a first gen its a fairly easy task

If the kit is rolled up I would definitely recoomend rolling it out and leaving it somewhere with some weights for a day or so.

It's not too bad. The hard part is getting the edges tucked in the front.

I layed mine out in a spare bedroom for a couple of days, then hit it with my heat gun just before laying it in, concentrating on the wrinkled up spots. Mine came out nice and flat not perfect at first, but it settles right in if close after a few drives. I did it in the winter also.

Well there is not much in the car right now..no seats etc...
Lay it out in the car, get a blow heater, about 1000W wind the windows almost up, hang a thermometer on the window, and let rip for a few hrs
A few weights here and there to help pull it into place...
