: 427 BBC Builds?
jrhbb Oct 31st, 06, 01:56 PM Posted this a while back(about a year ago +/-) and wanted to see if there had been any updates. Just checking to see if anybody has built any 427's and what kinda HP/TQ #'s you were getting and maybe a round about figure of cost. I'm looking for bargain basement finds and used parts so let's not get me too depressed:thumbsup: . Just like to see what I'm in store for when I finally get to start on my engine:hurray: . pdq67 Nov 1st, 06, 06:55 PM I know, I know!!
Put a cheap Ohio Crankshaft Company's 496 rotating assembly in it and make BIG lower rpm power imho AND gear and tire it accordingly!
Like $1200 for their forged 496 rotating assembly...

jrhbb Nov 1st, 06, 07:32 PM I've entertained that thought before, but I'm going to stick with a 427 this time around. I won't be able to afford to fix what that thing can break. Plus when building something that aggresive you have to build everything else accordingly. Which I won't be able to do. I know everyone knows this, but I just wanted you to here my reasons. Thanks, Jason Hopson
427 cam and compression is the topic thhread. I tried to copy it, but I can't make it work. Oct 5th is the date of the post.
PLT-1 Nov 2nd, 06, 04:24 AM I just had a 427 assembled at the local shop. We just did a warmed over, oval, mid range engine.. 4 bolt, Steel crank, big rods, roller rockers, nothing fancy... Came out nice, $4K parts and labor... Of course the labor is a killer. As is standard, and mentioned above, you want to build the engine as the weakest link. No use having a 700 HP engine w/a rear end that will only transfer 450 hp w/out coming apart. I have my fingers crossed on my muncie/clutch set up. We will see how long it last's.. Good Luck!...
MY10secSS Nov 2nd, 06, 08:07 AM I have a .060 over 427(439ci) with stock forged crank, 6.385 rods and JE pistons (12:1). I used 049 ovalports with stainless valves and a Lunati roller with .680/.685 lift and 266/268 duration @.050. I estimate 620hp and over 550lb/ft of torque. I did have studs installed both bottom (2bolt block) and heads. I use Hooker 2" headers, an old Holley single plane intake and a really old holley DP and this combo has run 6.70's @103mph in a 3200# car. I probably have 4 grand in the motor and it's been running strong since 2000.
BTW since I run a 6.99 index class, I shift at 6000 and trap at around 5500. That's about 15% below the horsepower peak. An easier combo you won't find and generally maintenance free.
