Havent been around in many years but 8 or 9 years ago I used to post under the name pink68 on this very board. Still have the car and it runs fine but life got ahead of me and I dropped out of the internet/car scene for a bit. Still enjoy old cars and all and my kids are now old enough to begin to enjoy them as well finally. Anyway, hi!

I look forward to being back on this board again, I always enjoyed the people here! The Camaro is originally a 6cyl with AC car that by the time I bought it it was very much not running. There was a 265 installed in it (I have NO idea why) which as it turns out was from a 55-56 Corvette. The original oil canister was still on the motor! Anyway, the motor has long since been reuinited with its correct car which is always a happy ending.

As the car was only a 6 cyl missing pretty much everything I decided to do what I wanted and that was to make a street machine. I did this car years before the "pro tour" concept made its showing as well. The color was not exactly my choice either. My wife made me promise that she could pick the color if I spent the money to do the car. We had talked about blue, red etc (the usual suspects) and I had no reason to think she would do something so "colorful". Unfortunately, I had a neighbor who while being a great help on the car talked he into (as a joke I am sure ;) ) the PantherPink color from Moparland. The original motor I built was a 402cid with a mini-blower which ran well enough. Once the paint choice was made and I found out I told her that motor wouldnt be enough. That motor soon gave way to an Edelbrock SuperVictor CNC headed Merlin, Hughes 400 with Gear Vendor etc so I could avoid the shame of the color...:) The car on 91 octane (the cr is 9.3) runs consistent 10.60s at 133 in the quarter with air conditioning, does great on the highway and weighs 3720lbs. Anyways, not too bore anyone and hope the pics arent too large for a dial up.

I see your location says Japan. Is that where the car is? And can you really make full use of a car like that in Japan..ie lots of open road to stretch its legs? Oh, and welcome back!

Thanks for the welcome Al. I am in Japan for a bit but the car is still in the U.S. The car was alot of fun to work on but still has alot to be done yet. I plan on redoing the interior (cage, seats etc) and repainting at some point. The car has been that color since 1999 and while it was fine while beating on the car and all there isnt much engineering left to do on the car and I wouldnt mind painting it black.

welcome back jim. nice car. you reunited the old vette motor with the car that it originally came from? if so, how did you find the owner?

Sadly, not the original Vette but one day after I had the Camaro in the driveway with that motor pulled a guy parked and walked up to my friend and I to look at the car. While talking to him I found out he worked for the Railroad company and had a 1956 Vette he was slowly putting back together. He had owned the car for many years and due to time/money etc he was taking literally years to put it back together. At this time he did not see the motor as it was inside the garage. Once we began to talk I started to think that maybe the motor would be a good thing for him. The motor he had was a much later motor, I think it was a 327 or something, but it wasnt the right one for his car. Over the next several days I thought about it and eventually offered him the motor for almost next to nothing in price. He didnt have too much money and I thought it would be a nice home for it. Today his car is finished and he and his kids are enjoying it which is what this is all about! I am glad I could help someone out.
