I'm getting ready to paint the firewall area. I first started to grind off the old paint all the way down to bare metal. My question is... will the bare metal be fine if I didn't spray primer on it for a while. I got excited and forgot that I have more preping like: cutting, welding, and treating, before I can primer and paint. I think that the metal will begin to rust, but some friends say that it will be fine. I live in Oregon and there's some humidity but not a lot. I just thaught that I would more of a professional opinion. thanks for your advise http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

First off Don't grind any sheet metal use a dual action sander.

Well it depends on how long you will be weeks ? months...? bare metal will start to rust after being exposed for a while how ever if you are going to properly take it all down to bare metal in the near future it should be ok, because any rust that does form can be sanded off. It should only be surface rust if any by the time you get at it. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

If you are really concerned just spray on some cheap spray-bome rust in hibiting primer until you do it right with epoxy etc. http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif
