I'm looking at buying a car cover for my 69 Camaro. Any tips on what to buy ?? And what's a good company to buy from ??

If you're storing it outside, I HIGHLY recommend the NOAH fabric. Mine is made by California Car Cover and cost me about 200 bucks, but other companies also use the NOAH fabric and might be a little cheaper. My car is outside all the time right now, so I went with the best and I have not regretted it!

I have two Kimberly Clark Evolution 4. One for more than 4 years and is in perfect condition, they don't take much abuse cause the cars are normally in a doorless garage. They keep dust away and are good for moisture control.

I've got the same cover that NO "E" has. Seems to work well, but if it sits outside for awhile and gets dirty, then rains, it seems to seep thru and get the car messy. Have you had that problem ben?

A gold star for Steve for using my last name in a sentence! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif I've also BEeN having some problems with water SEEPing through my cover. It's mostly on the hood and trunk where the water collects into puddles where it's flat and then slowly seeps through the cover. I tried to fix this by sticking a cardboard shipping tube in front of the spoiler to get rid of that valley in the cover. But then the cardboard discolored my paint! http://www.camaros.net/forum/frown.gif So I'm living with the seepage for now, until I get a garage instead. It's really not bad though, and if I washed my cover it would probably solve the problem.

The other thing I've noticed is that when my car is uncovered the birds poop on it constantly, but so far the cover has only been pooped on once! It's like they're doing it on purpose!!

Watch out how many times you wash it, it gets less water repellent with every washing from what the manufacturer says. I've only washed mine once so far, I've had it 4 years.

I bought mine from Rick's 1st Generation and it worked out great. It kept such things as dust and moisture away plus it was thick enough to protect it when objects or kids got near. It was a Technalon Custom-Fit cover with the Evolution 4 material from Kimberly-Clark and it cost about $140.00. The only mistake I made was that I let it go with my last Camaro I sold.

Thanks for the advice on not washing it too much Steve, I'll keep that in mind. My last name is Seep, and you mentioned water seeping through your cover, so I thought that was cool. It's not everyday that you get to use the word "seep" (unless you repair leaky basements maybe). http://www.camaros.net/forum/smile.gif

Let me say one thing about car covers DO NOT get one that is 100% water pruf if you leve your car out side. Moister will get under it and will cause you paint to blister. The moister from the ground is anuff to cause this so get one that will breathe.

Good advice Tim, I've seen bad things happen under water repelent covers, tarps, and plastic. Especially if it's snows, the condesation will start on the headliner, collect on the glass and start running to the dash and puddle up trying to rust a hole thru. Windows have to be cracked, even in the freezing cold.

I only cover my car in the garage to keep dust off it. I bought the Pep Boys special $39.95 cover and it works great. It's a universal fit for mid-size cars but it fits well and is soft and easy on the paint.

I just wanted to say thanks to everybody who answered the post. I have to park my Camaro outside to work on other cars and here in the high desert it gets hot and real windy so I need a cover that's not going to blow off and fit the car pretty snug. The car gets parked in the garage every night. Any more thoughs on this ??.

The evolution 4 fabric covers can be ordered for a specific car. I have had many for my vettes. They even come with little "ear muffs" that go over the side mirrors. They have elastic on the bottom of the cover and they fit nice and tight. They also have a grommet on each side that is protected from the paint, and you can get a vinyl coated wire cable accessory that you can use with a lock. Or you can use rope to tie it tight in a windy situation. I used to use bungee cords at the front and rear to hold it on tight, and a rope tie in the middle.
If you are using it indoors and outdoors for short periods it will last forever. If you leave them out in the weather they last about four years, then the elastic loosens and they leak through, in the rain. This leaves a dusty coating on the car. The acid rain kills the fabric. If you leave the car indoors you just need a regular one for 40 bucks. The others cost 200.

You probably know this, but make sure your catr is CLEAN before putting the cover on. Especially if it is outside in the wind.
The cover moving in the wind will scratch and scuff the **** out of your paint if it's dirty!

Was watching My Classic Car last night (TiVo) and they did a segment on car covers. They recommended the California Car Cover company and noted they had about 7 different materials that are optimized for different storage needs....inside/outside, UV protection, moisture, ding protection, etc...

Sounded like a good place to check out.
