How about showing us some of these cars. Pics or links. Its great seeing other cars and projects and helps with ideas. I just finished my project and kind of wish I had something to work on. Only 44 miles on the car and just sorting it out, drives great and cant wait to go for the next cruise.

Mine's a mild pro-touring set-up. I have the hotchkis suspension with Global-west UCA's, Bilstein shocks, 3rd gen power steering box, CE subframe connectors, 245/17's in front, 275/17 in back. I will be upgrading the brakes once I get the funding.

Thanks, Hotchkis drop springs no upper pad and I used an extra spacer plate they supply (before the lower pad) when using multi-leaf perches...

That stance is exactly what my wife wants on our Camaro. It is currently old school - up in the back (I have owned it for 60 days). I have the Hotchkis TVS sitting on my garage floor right now.

Would you mind giving me your suspension mods and set up?

Thanks!

68sixspeed
Nov 15th, 06, 10:45 AM
Thanks-- as shown their it was on coilovers up front, Vette-brakes 2" drop leafs in the rear with a 4 link on floaters. Now it's coilovers out back.

The front end is a custom upper arm mount setup to get the camber gains right, all the suspension work was done pre 1995, so the kits, etc that are out now didn't exist yet.

Tire sizes there are P215/65r15 front, p255/60r15 rear; 15x7 rims front, 15x8 rims rear.

There is a bit more info in the garage link in my signiture, or if you need any other info, let me know I'm sure I can get it for you.

Budnik Cobalt Wheels, C4 brakes, Hotchkis TVS kit, Koni, Kumho tires.

At the moment I am putting in an LS1 engine with a T56, the transplant is almost done. It is drivable with the new engine but car needs some interior work to be presentable. Vintage Air compressor should be mounted too.

I like them but they are not for big guys. The quality is very nice. Most of all they are the right height, thats very important.

The motor is good for 1200+ HP if he wants. All the good stuff; billet crank/rods, etc. It is not an LT1, it's a Brodix aluminum 373 cid small block (destroked 400 basically).

I've driven RA1's in the rain just fine, there is a reason why they have water grooves in them. What are you basing this info off of? Hearsay?

Just saying be careful. I don't want BP to get hurt.

driving in the rain with any 600hp motor is going to be hairy, the tires will work just fine if he has any common sense with the throttle. The difference in compound from a R rated tire to a good street tire isn't all that much that driving in the rain on them is going to be that bad. In fact the R compound tire is softer and stickier and warms up quickly compared to a street tire(which is meant to last longer). The difference is that the blocks on the tire are shorter and there are less rain grooves. I think he'll be just fine

You talk like you don't know me, I'm all about common sense.. lol

The main issue is that tires like mine have a very shallow tread depth and after some hard driving it's even less. There are also less channels, not as few as a NT01, but you get the idea.

How is the R compond tire going to heat up in the rain? You can drive in the rain if you don't act like an idiot. Hell, you could drive on slicks if you went slow enough. I certainly would be in the slow lane if rain came my way though.

cody
Jan 5th, 07, 05:36 PM
They don't heat up in the rain, even more of a reason why they won't be any different than a street tire with moderation. Tires don't heat up in the rain unless you really punish them which you most likely won't be doing anyway when its wet. And that is exactly what I said about the tires, the blocks are shorter(which creates less flex) and less water channels. Basically more rubber patch, but not that much less that using them in the rain is really all that bad. Maybe not on an everyday driver but its not all that serious like some people would lead you to believe. We are talking about the RA1's.

Well we will see very soon it will be on the dyno in no time. We will start at between 6 and 8 and see where we are but you maybe right it may take more boost to get her done. Either way I will happy with anywhere between 750-800 at the wheels.
I will be sure to post up and let you how it goes.

Yeah the 1" block wasn't fun to put in... the u-bolts that came with them were not long enough, so I had to get new ones and the ones I got were 1/2" diameter... They fit, but just barely and the beefier thread doesn't give at all when trying to put them on... I guess I feel better with the bigger bolts though.

Well here are some half azz updates on my car. My friend and I have been doing on and off weekend bodywork. It is a slow process but the filler work is 95% done which means primer is coming up next. We put a skim coat on pretty much the entire front end to get it real straight. The hood took a whole lot more than a skim coat to get it straight it was so damn wavy. Probably have 10-15 hours alone in the hood. The pictures don't really show much all that great but thats about all I got right now. I'm hoping to have the car done by next spring or this winter honestly.

BTW this is not my POS house my car is in front of lol

PROTOTYPE28, what type suspension are you running and what size wheels are you using including back spacing?

PROTOTYPE28
Jun 14th, 07, 09:54 AM
Soramac: The suspension on the front of this car is all stock other than the 3 way adj. shocks. The rear has a 3" mini tub kit from detroit speed with a 3" drop spring with another 1 inch block (total of 4 inches). The wheels are 17x8 (4.75 bs) in the front with a 235 tire. The rear is 17x11 (5 inch bs) with a 335 tire.

Your car is awesome by the way.

Soramac, I am running a street radial, both front and rear. The fronts are 235's and the rears are 335's. The previous owner said i could run a 245 on the front without rubbing. The front suspension is all stock other than the 3 way adj. shocks.

The repairs to Penny are done! :woot:

After 5 months and $35,000 the Camaro is officially out of paint jail. The crew at BOS did an amazing job on her and she's better than before the accident. Since she's SEMA bound they spent over 60 hrs color sanding and buffing the paint and trust me that the pics don't do the color or the finish justice.

I really want to thank Best Of Show for fixing my car so well and for dealing with the insurance company to make sure it got fixed right.

All I need to do is finish the interior, get an alignment and add on the ATS carbon fiber spoiler.

Here she is.. Bad Penney Version 1.2 (let's hope there's not a 1.3.. lol)

http://picsorban.com/upload/donepenny2.jpg

http://picsorban.com/upload/donepenny.jpg

Still have an elec gremlin in the brake lights, but the car runs great. Tomorrow she heads to the interior shop. By the way, this is the how the car sits (ride heigth).

The BOS crew got her all loaded on the trailer tonight. :woot:

Wow steve those shots of that car look unreal, you really pulled it off(doesn't hurt that they are photoshopped hehe) Regardless that car "looks" killer. Is it very functional that low? If so it looks really good, I do notice that your lower control arms are pointing "up", not sure really how big of a deal it is, but from what I've gathered you're "supposed" to have them level with the ground at ride height. Something about having the correct motion ratio or something. Might wanna look into it, also do you have the ATS headers, man I'm jealous, I would KILL for some custom try-y's for my firebird, the ground clearance right now is just ridiculous, gonna kill the exhaust on driveways since the wheels are spaced so far apart(front to back) on the second gens.

Really though, I'm not into the appearance department as "much" as I used too, I value other things more, but that car looks freakin badass......and it appears if it is setup to go all out, if you think you have enough fur on your peaches. Although its going to be a shame when it gets all biffed up from rocks and off road/track excursions lol.\

That rear shot might have to be my new wallpaper

The only photoshopping was to desaturate the yellow from the dang skylights in the shop.

Yea, technically they should be level but they aren't far off that now and the car is getting a super killer alignment next week. I will take whatever advice they offer on it (they work on lots of C5/6 track cars).

The headers arn't ATS units, I couldn't afford those. These are made by 21st century street machines subframe. They are 1 7/8 stepped long tubes though. I have gobs of ground clearance. More than I would have expected.

As for appearance stuff. I like to think I made it look nice without going too "show car". I hope the end result is that it has an OEM/industrial look.. like it could have came that way. There really isn't much on the car that isn't functional or that is detremental to performance.

If I get rock chips it's not like they don't make paint any longer. I've xpeled the areas behind the tires to help. The rest is on its own.

How's your ride coming along? Shoot me a pic and I will put it in the under construction section. Not enough cool birds in there. ;)

Cool, all I was implying about the look thing, is that I know you were looking to do more of a streetfighter deal or whatever you call it. IIRC the original intention was to make something bare-bones that you could beat on with less worries. I'd say you stil managed to make something really nice and shiny. Nothing wrong with that, it came out really nice. the paint looks good to, nice and flat you can tell they spent the time to really color sand it out.

Regardless of all the crap I'm giving you about it being almost "too" nice, it came out really nice dude, I still think the frontend that low is going to give away some function(won't wheels hit the inner fenders? So what events are you scheduled for? I'm betting you're gonna be realy reserved about riding it around on the public streets!

Now that the summer is over and I'm gonna put the bike up for the winter and stop spending $$$$ on trackdays and related crap my main priority is to get my car going. %90 of the bodywork is done, but the car needs to be primed, panels aligned, and a bunch of other damn things before it can be painted. Not to mention I'm gonna pull the motor AGAIN due to oil leaks. I'm not too fond of the 1 piece oil pan gasket(felpro) I also have a leak down tester coming in the mail to check the rings to see if they are leaking, causing blowby, and making the seals leak.

Anywayz I should have some updates soon, there aren't really any great pics I have of it right now, I'll see what I can put together but don't hold your breath lol.

Well, it really is "bare bones".. no heat, AC, stereo.. etc.. I never set out to build a Rat-PT-car. lol - To me StreetFighter means the car is "purposeful" and not necessarily beat up or rough looking. I will know more when I scale the car and get her on the road, that's the true test. Sure runs nice though.

Wheels don't hit at all and I have no rubbing even when making the tightest turn possible. I had the Forgeline wheels rebuilt twice to get this. The only reason the paint is this nice is that the idiot hit me and they painted the whole car.

PT.com is putting on some sort of open track day. and I will drive the crap out of it on the streets. Might try to avoid the barrio and craptastic bad traffic freeway areas but other than that I drive my junk. I feel a car can be "pretty" and functional. The car isn't real blingy, just very clean and (I fee) well sorted out. It's certainly low on the frills.

As for your car, get some killer shots when you can and I will give you some ink, I won't even say anything nasty about you ;) lol :p

You should do a good track school in that car, a 2 day event and do a complete write-up about it in the magazine. I know you're the tech editor but still. First part could be about how to prepare mechanicall, and how to prepare mentally. Then you could do the track school and relate everything you learned or something along those lines. Autocrosses and such are pretty boring IMO for spectators, all they see are cars and cones.

Oh and for the record, my car is pretty damn blinged out as well if not way more lol, so don't listen to mr hypocrit over here lol. I was gonna do the body color innerfenders as well but damn it I'm just gonna do them black instead. I'm a little dissapointed that I did everything gloss black now, If I could do it again it would of all been satin black under the hood.

Oh (2nd time) I'm gonna get some black anodized 2nd gen billet hood hinges, yes I told everyone they were posers for thinking about spending that kind of coin, but man are they nice!

Coming along great Scott. What are the plans with the interior?

69ProTouring
Dec 20th, 07, 09:35 AM
Thanks. The interior has Marquez Design door panels, Recaro seats, Autokraft 6 point cage, DSE dash/instrument carrier, Budnik Steering wheel, AutoMeter gauges, Alpine head unit, and MODO Innovations pedals.

Here's a pic of it assembled but not finished. The electronics between the seats are just sitting there when I took the pic, that's not where they're going. Oh, and those aren't the right seats, either. lol

Aloha- We are getting the final plumbing and parts buttoned up on this 69 Camaro for a gentlemen in the Hawaii Islands. We installed our Chicane-LM front suspension, DSE mini tubs with Global West L2 CAT5 leaf springs, DSE subframe connectors, Vintage Air compac II, LS6 from a 2002 Corvette Z06 converted to a carb, and backed by a viper internal T56 six speed.

The car has 18" Budnik Laterals on it, and C5 front and rear brakes. Here are some quick pics we took last night. We can get pics of anything else, just ask for them, and well post them.

Yep, Jody's got it. I had several spray outs done and with the input from Kurt at Autokraft (http://www.autokraft.org), we came up with this shade of red. We're calling it Autokraft Red.
