So I picked up a power steering pump/mounting brackets. I also got a power steering box out of a 67 Camaro with the pitman arm. The only thing I still need is a set of new hoses (whats a good source for these?) and a new crank pulley to drive the pump.

Would this work? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Chevrolet-327-350-Crank-Pulley_W0QQitemZ180048731190QQihZ008QQcategoryZ386 56QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

The pulley will need to come from a junkyard or repro house. If it's in the ballpark yearwise, your pump should take a slide on pulley with a woodruff key.

Later years were a press fit with a tapered shaft.

Napa has the hoses, and they are good ones.

If you're going to put PS on it. Do yourself a favor and get a 80's Z28 PS box. It's a pretty easy swap and a much better box. I got a 86 Z box and I'm glad I did. Do a search on it. It's been discussed alot here.

I already have the pump with pulley, and I already have the box as well. What I am looking for is the 2 groove crank pulley that will be used to turn the power steering pump pulley. Will the one shown in that ebay link work on my 327?

Thanks for the NAPA suggesstion, are all power steering hoses the same, or do I need to specify a set for a 68 Camaro

The one in the ebay add does not look right for a 68 short WP, not even close, but it's hard to tel for sure from that one pic. The original pulley set was 2 peices.

The outer pulley had a "deeper" flange, the pulley groove is out maybe an inch from the face of the balancer. This pulley was a single groove except for with A/C. A/c cars have a second groove on this pulley, INSIDE the first, but still set out from the balancer.

PS cars have a second separate pulley. the balancer side is flat, the edge of the groove nearly touches the face of the balancer. This pulley goes on first, then the w/p - alt - a/c pulley, and the same 3 bolts hold them both on.

The hoeses will be specific to a firstgen. there are different lengths and differently bent metal ends depending on the application, front steer / rear steer, and the type, location, and angle of the fittings on the pump. There are a bunch of differnet possible combinations. Some have even written about junkyard pumps that had female fittings instead of male.

as far as getting the pulley's, summit sells them, if you like chrome or alluminum.

If you want used-original, I believe there is a part number list at camaros.org.
Assuming you all ready have the correct lower pulley for the water pump / alternator, all you need is the second one for the power steering.

Do like Jim says and get a 3rd gen box, or an AGR unit. You won't like your Power steering if you don't. http://69camaro.nextmill.net/steering.html

Thanks, I am trying to keep it original looking, so I will keep my eye out on ebay and Hemmings, worse case I can always get a chrome one and just blast it and paint it black.

I wasn't aware I needed different pulleys for the water pump/alternator however, I was under the assumption that there was just a 2 groove pulley on the crank which drove the power steering pump. Are there any good diagrams of the belt routing for these cars?

Thanks again

belt routing and pulley use are detailed in the AIM.

What you need (without a/c) is groove skip one groove.
You do not need to change any other pulley, just add the single groove power steering pulley to the crank, it attaches behind the existing pulley.

Thanks Jim! Now at least I know what I need to look for (this pulley that's probably going to be impossible to find0 :)

blue,

I understand that you have the box already. What me and TJ are telling you is the 3rd gen boxes are way better than the old ones. It's just not worth going thru putting the older box on it unless it's for a show car for points. I got my 3rd gen box for $50.00 at a bone yard.

Here are pics of the pulleys you will need pic-1 is the one against balancer pic-2 is the one that bolts to the front of the first one.

Not saying it won't work, it looks like it may, but pic 1 does not match the original inner pulley for the power steering on my 68, it has an extra groove.

Maybe that's from a car with AC?

Well, I see now that you have a 68. So I guess it won't work perfect with your setup. It works perfect on my 67. I guess you should buy from our sponsor or the other firstgen catalogs like Ricks or Classic Ind. They have the right part.

I just looked at Ricks site below and it shows same part #'s for 67-68. Go to this link and look on left column for (pulleys). It also gives detail on what app they are for.
