: Cowl Vent Panel Removal
Joe G Mar 18th, 01, 09:15 AM I did a search, but nothing came up.
I want to replace the seals under the cowl vent panel. Can I remove the panel without removing the windhield moldings? I kinda looks like I can, but before I start something I'll regret, I thought I'd check with the experts. http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
Thanks, in advance
Joe

shadow53 Mar 18th, 01, 11:23 AM Yes you can remove it without having to take off the moldings. I did it late last year and it came off and went back on just fine.
Joe G Mar 18th, 01, 03:02 PM Thanks, shadow. Any issues with the wiper arm removal? The cowl panel cleared the shafts OK?
Thanks again,
Joe

shadow53 Mar 18th, 01, 03:07 PM No I didn't have any problems with them clearing the wiper shafts. Taking the wipers off is a pain in the butt though.
JohnZ Mar 19th, 01, 12:43 PM There's a neat wiper removal tool you can buy for about $5.00 at most good auto parts stores that makes it a snap to pop the wiper arms off the shafts; lots easier than prying them off with screwdrivers and scratching the paint.

blancefitz Mar 19th, 01, 01:40 PM I took mine off this past weekend. To get the wiper arms off, I took a pry bar and wrapped some duct tape around the end and placed a small block of wood wrapped in a washcloth next to the wiper arm base. I set the prybar on the block of wood and applied gentle upward pressure on the wiper arm base and they came off with no damage to anything.
ORENCH Mar 19th, 01, 02:40 PM Joe G, where are those seals specifically located under the cowl vent panel & what's their purpose? Who sell them?
Joe G Mar 19th, 01, 08:01 PM The seals are supposed to help direct air flow to the vents and help seal water out of the side of the firewall/cowl (I think, from looking at the assembly manual.) Maybe JohnZ or someone with his type of knowledge can shed some more light on this.
I bought mine from Classic Industries. It comes as part of a kit that includes the cowl/hood seal, wiper motor seal and steering column seal. About $18. I think all the catalogs have them.
I bought the kit to get the hood/cowl seal, (which you can get separately) but figured I'd use the others anyway.
Never can have enough parts! http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif
JohnZ, is the wiper arm tool called anything special? Think the local auto parts store guys will know what I'm talking about when I ask for it?
Thanks
Joe

RickD Mar 20th, 01, 02:20 AM The wiper arm tool is everywhere. Try NAPA or whatever chain is near you. A good investment.
Joe G Mar 20th, 01, 07:37 PM I'll do that.
Thanks http://www.camaros.net/forum/biggrin.gif

Joe G Mar 22nd, 01, 04:32 PM Well, I went to 4 different auto parts store today. Got the same "deer in the headlights" look at all of them. Finally found one in a catalog at one of them. It will be here Monday. Shipping was as much as the tool!
Oh well, at least I'll have it...
You guys must have better parts stores than the junk around here!
