Just a few questions for all....has anyone painted their dash (metal) with POR15? I want to do the floorpan, but was thinking of extending all the way up to and include the metal on the dash.
If you have done this, did you just leave it with the POR or did you paint over the POR? (on the dash) and if you painted, what type of paint did you use? Any pics would be cool too!
Thanks

POR15 is for killing rust. Even on the underside of the car, I only used it in places that were or had once been rusty. I'm a big fan of the stuff, too.
It's not really the right finish for the dash, too glossy. Even if that's what you want, driving into the sun with a gloss black dash would blind you.
The dash needs to be a semi-gloss finish. The repro houses sell the correct stuff in spray cans.
If you have the tools/ability to spray real paint, you'd be better off using an expoxy primer, or por-ing the rusty areas and using a urathane primer then top coat. If you don't have a spray gun / compressor, do the best you can with what you have.
Remember, if you are going to top coat POR, you have to get something on it before it's all the way dry. If you let it cure comepletely, nothing oin this earth will stick to it. I usually lightly fog it with spray bomb primer.

Also POR 15 does not hold up to the UV rays and would need to be topcoated with a paint if you are going to put it on the dash.
