I am thinking about getting a powermaster 100 amp internally regulated altenator but I have a question about hooking it up. I did a search and have read MANY of the posts already discussed but have not found the answer to my specific question. I HAVE figured out I want to stay with the 3 wire hook up, so how would I go about it with a powermaster alt? do I just hook up the larger wire to the post on the powermaster with the nut and the other 2 wires to the spades on the altenator or should I not do that since its internally regulated? thanks in advance!

Berry251,

I replaced the stock alternator in my 1969 with a 140 Amp Powermaster about 2 months ago. Like you I had the same concern. When looking at the Powermaster the blades (prongs) on the back were different. I found the spot in the wiring harness where the facotry looking prong was taped into it. At that spot I cut it and installed the different plug that would fit on the Powermaster. I then connected the other wire to the back of the nut on the alternantor.

Hopefully this should be ok. I left the voltage regualtor on the car. Maybe I should have disconnected it. But it seems to be working ok and I get more voltage/amps at the aftermarket voltmeter/amp guage.

This is from the powermaster site.

How can I hook my one-wire alternator up as a three-wire alternator?

Some Powermaster one wire alternators (i.e., pn/n’s 17127, 17294, 37294, 47294, 8002, 58005) can be hooked up as a three wire ...IF the vehicle is equipped with the two spade GM or aftermarket wiring harness. The Powermaster one-wire alternators have a black plug cover on the side of the alternator. This can be removed and the GM or aftermarket two-spade wiring harness can be plugged in for three-wire operation. See your alternator instruction sheet for further details.

Try this..

Gee Dawg,
Instead of the Powermaster, I'll go with the one you listed. I have had no trouble with the powermaster however the prices are better on the link you posted :)
