Hello, i have a friend in Lawrence Kansas who needs a title on his 74 Camaro. Companies like Broadway title search told him no. Does anybody know a way to obtain a title? The local DMV isnt much hope for him right now. All help is appreciated.

Oh, titles, I thought it said...oh, nevermind...
Call the DMV main office for help, not the local office.

Kansas DMV is filled with...um...people who don't know or care to know about anything regarding titles.
Easy, first question #1: What happened to the original?
Missing, missigned, or damaged but you know the owner.
Find the last titled owner, have a new title issued, or get a power of attorney and do the same without involving the owner outside of signing/notarizing.
Can't find the name? Have the police department do a search.
Out of the system? Okay. There are a few ways to get one.
#1 Wait 2 years until it becomes an antique
#2 Do a quiet title action, this involves an attorney, it is expensive, the only one the Bar Association has listed costs $1000 per vehicle. I'm looking into how to do this pro se (ie myself), but I don't have a vehicle that needs it right now.
#3 Go to ITS (International Title Service) and have them register it in Maine, this requires proof of insurance and buying a Maine plate, but it's legal in Kansas. A friend did this for a motorcycle, worked out pretty well. It's also not cheap, but cheaper than the lawyer.
I'd never recommend a title service on car that might have a former owner who'd come looking for it (the motorcycle he had was a true basketcase) but it is simpler.
I've had about every title issue known to man, so feel free to ask questions.

Nope, sorry, but I'm about 30 miles from him in Topeka and I'll be happy to help with whatever.

Sure, I'll email. I know how the people are there, they look for ways to not issue titles. I live near the main branch and they're just as usless as the rest.
Hopefully he's patient.
