Not sure if this should be in "bug hunt". Mods please move if need be.

Computer gurus,

I just sold my laptop (p3 700mhz, 256 mb ram) to my friend because I was planning to upgrade to newer laptop (dvd burner, built in wireless, more ram, etc...)

So now I'm surfing on compusa.com and I must of viewed about 15-20 laptops in the $1k range and lower. Not one of them is equipped with serial port. Thats what I need for my innovate LM-1. I know they're phasing out floppy drives, parallel ports etc...

Any advice? I know there are adapters (pcmcia to serial) but heard they can be problematic..???

Thanks in advance,

Ray

These work well. All of my router guys use them.

Thanks guys!! :hurray: That'll work, so is a driver/software required for adapter itself? or plug and play?

once it's installed, most of them let you go in and assign a com port. The default is com3 on most, but the LM1 may require com1 or com2.

You'd find this by getting properties of the device in the system control panel / hardware

I'll agree with all said above regarding the USB to Serial port adapters. They're plug & play with Windows XP and you set the properties of which com port they mimic as JimM stated in his post by the properties in the device manager.
