What do you mean by "rebuild the missing vin number"?

when we purchased the '68 and under the constant insistance of the seller's wife, the seller gave us a vin tag missing '67 rolling chasis. when delivered, we decided that if we could verify that the car was not stolen and that we could re-title the vehicle, we would make it the panther tribute vs parting it out. with the partial vin number in hand we started the process. long story short, once we verified that the vehicle was not listed on any hot sheet, we inquired of our options. if dmv could trace the original vin, they could re-issue that vin number. according to the az dmv their were able to do just that and re-built the vin number, re-issued the number and yesterday installed a new soft aluminum adhevise backed vin tag on the door sill. i have not seen the number first hand but i can't wait to see if it truly the original number.
re-building the vin is the term used by a musclecar friendly inspector. we never pushed him for the number and with the time he spent worling our case, maybe he was able to do just that.

not that the administrators are busy enough,
my personal request for activating the F-7 key function to the site (lol)
(F-7, spell check!)
from prior post: adhevise = adhesive

Spell check is a browser plug-in and not part of the Team Camaro forum software. Here is the recommended spell checker for the IE browser and teh forum software. I use it and it works cool and puts an icon on the WYSIWYG box you type your message into. www.iespell.com Once installed there is still no function key programmability but you can <alt-t><i><i><enter> to activate it. Of course it's less pain to just click on the icon...
