My 14 Year old son and I are fixing up a 1980 Camaro. The rear tail panel is rusted down low and around the bumper mounting points. I bought a replacement panel. There is another inner panel that goes betwwn the lower tail panel and the gas tank. Can anyone tell me where I can find a replacement or should we leave it out?

Evinrude, Welcome to Team Camaro!
I'm going to move this down to the Second Generation catagory a little further down the main page.

Best bet is to search the local yards. A junk section or self-fabrication may be the only ways to go. The factory never put anything in these cars it didn't need. If they could save a dollar a car, that ment hundreds of thousands at the end of the day. If it had it, it needs it, put it back.

AS OF SEVERAL YEARS AGO WHEN I MYSELF HAD BOUGHT A CAR WITH THIS SAME ISSUE,NO ONE WAS MAKING THIS PART. EVEN GOODMARK' NOW THE PROBLEM WITH THIS ALSO IS THE PANEL IS SPOT WELDED TO EVERYTHING, A VERY EXTENSIVE OPERATION OF CAREFUL CUTTING AND DRILLING IS REQUIRED TO DO THIS,IF THE FLOOR ISNT BAD WHERE THE LEAF SPRINGS MOUNT AND THE TRUNK IS GOOD.YOU COULD TRIM THE TOP EDGE EVEN WITH THE TRUNK FLOOR AND DO THIS. MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE GAS TANK. ALSO SOMEONE WITH A FAIR AMOUNT OF SHEET METAL BACK GROUND COULD MAKE SECTIONS TO WELD IN, OR FIND A CAR THAT HAS A NICE PANEL, DEPENDS HOW BAD YOU WANT TO SAVE THIS CAR, AND HOW LONG YOU WANT IT TO LAST THE TEST OF TIME.MANY 2ND GENS HAVE THIS AREA RUSTED, LOOK AGAIN FOR SOMEONE WHO MAYBE HAS THIS PART AVAILABLE AFTERMARKET.
