This may have been posted before but if it has been, I missed it. Should the instrument housing be painted the same color as the dash or should it be black? If painted dash color, should the interior portion (that portion receeding to the clear plastic) also be painted or should it remain flat black? Again, if painted does anyone have a good idea on how to mask the bright ring at the top of the receeding portion? I've seen at least one pix of a painted instrument housing but don't know if it was correct.

My dash is black so I am not sure about the color, but I can tell you what I did for the bright ring. I took some good old fashioned grease and put a light layer on the bright ring. Then I painted. A few minutes after painted, I took a cloth and carefully wiped it off. The grease keeps the paint from drying. No trying to tape in a circle - it was fast, easy, and worked perfectly.

Mr G's did my dash. I received a flyer when it was returned indicating they sell a liquid called Micro mask instead of tape for detailing these parts (vacuum metalized) for $3.00 for a two oz bottle. Never tried it myself.

Thanks for the link. Can't tell for sure but it looks like the interior portion of the instrument housing was left flat black.

Yes, the interior of each guage hole is black.
