Hello everyone. Finally got my Z painted and all rubbed out. After I installed the door weatherstripping and door panels, the doors will not shut. The weatherstrip at the top front of the door is hitting the dash / kick panel putting everything in a bind. If I pull off the door weatherstrip it will shut. I have adjusted the doors "out" as far as I can get them to move. These are Goodmark doors, and I hope this is not a problem with the doors! I could try and bend to dash area slightly where the seals hit. Hopefully someone can give me some ideas to try. Thanks in advance! Jeff

Common problem. Slam the doors and let it sit a few days until the weatherstrip compresses a little.

Hello, thanks for the reply. There is no way to shut the door with the seal on. No possible way to slam it shut. They're not just hard to shut, they will not shut! Even with just the door panel on, it still hits the dash area. Keep the ideas coming. Thanks, Jeff

Do you mean the rubber that goes around the door frame? What brand is it?

Hello, Yes it is the rubber seal around the doors. It is OER brand. It does seem hard. I usually use Soft Seal. I'm going to get the Soft Seal and try it. But, the doors still shut hard even with the seals off. The door panels also hit and cause doors to shut hard. They will shut without the seal, but still too hard. Take care, Jeff

Hey Jeff, if you're going to buy different seals, check out the "Metro" brand. I bought mine after the suggestion of board members. I've not used Soft Seal, but Metro is very soft and it worked great for me. The first couple of times, the doors we're a little stiff, but now they're just like new.

Unrelated issue to weatherstrip issue; Be real careful about "slamming" your doors shut. I used repro door skins on my 69 and have found the same problem with my uncles 70 chevelle with repro skins, and that is the metal is real thin and warps easy as you load the door handle area. Try and use the inside handle as you shut door (with window open ) or push on the top of the door where the inner bracing is. Careful! If this is a complete door shell, I would suspect the thinner guage may be used as well, but don't know for sure.

I have a new Goodmark door on my drivers side, an original door on the passengers side and new weather stripping on both sides. They are equally hard to close, but not impossible.

My OER weatherstrips caused the same problem you are having. When I tried to close the door, it just bounced back at me. I trimed the edge by the dash, and that helped a bit. Repeated use of the doors has caused them to free up a bit, but they still need to be slammed. I really don,t know what OER was thinking.

Hi David! The wife and I wanted to make it to the Camaro Fest in KC but we had family matters to attend to. The son-in-law has testicular cancer. I heard from a friend from Jeff City that attended with his Blue 90 RS (decked out machine)that the turn out was good in spite of the rain. Hopefully we will be up there next September with the 69 and the 75. As for the subject of door seals, I had the same problem with the seals on the 69 and the 75. They were Soft Seal and they had to adjust to the car. The seals on the 75 have been on there for almost 6 years and I still have to close the doors pretty hard. The seals on the 69 have been on for two years and they actually close better than the ones on the 75. Jim

I had the same problem on my 67 coupe last spring. I tried both Metro and Softseal brands, and now have the SoftSeal's on the car. BUT, I tried and tried to adjust the door(s) so they would close reasonably well and couldn't. Took the car back to the body shop to fix a couple of dings I put into it when re-assembling the car and have stripes put on it. Went there every day for a couple of weeks and one day the body shop owner says hey check out your doors. I re-adjusted them. Somehow, and don't ask me how, but he adjusted them so they close just like a new car. They line up well with the gaps, lines and still have the new weatherstripping on them. I too thought the weatherstripping had to shrink or adjust to the car, but I don't think that is the case. You really need to know what you are doing when you adjust your doors. I spent a couple days trying to do that and couldn't, yet he could.
