I need to remove the aftermarket speedo and tach from the instrument cluster. I am replaceing them with OE pieces. I understand that I have to remove the dash pad in order to do this. The aftermarket gauges are secured to the cluster housing from behind in some fashion.

I have service manual and a body by fisher book but no assembly book.

Sorry,

The dash unit should be mounted with screws just under the dash pad. You may be able to reach the upper screws by lifting the lip of the dash pad. If you can reach these screws, all that is left is to drop the steering column (two nuts under the dash) and remove the screws at the base of the dash unit. This should allow the dash unit to be pulled out far enough to do the gauge work.

If you need to remove the dash pad all you need to do is remove the 3 or 4 nuts off the studs that are attached to the pad under the passenger side that go through the dash itself...Use a flashlight from under the pass. side...you will see em!

Then remove all the small screws that hold it to the instrument cluster...don't forget the two screws on the extreme ends of that dash (In the jamb).

After all the screws are removed...there are a series (about 6) of spring type clips that hold the dash flush to the top of the dash....just pull the pad towards you...with just a bit pressure the spring clips will let loose...start from either side and working towards the other....

Presto...your done!
