I gotta be honest....upholstry (seat covers) and paint are the two jobs I decided to farm out. I have seen what a GOOD upholsterer can do with foam shaping etc. that can make the difference between a good job and a excellent one. I got both fronts and the back done for $150 (I provided the covers) and they look perfect. Just my 2 ¢

I did mine at a buddies business (upholstery shop)
to do a outstanding job you need some specilized tools.
and its still a pita.
one thing to remember [a heat gun is your best tool]

This might help, try to get a copy of [How to restore your camaro]Dobbs Publications. I used the info in chapter 7 to help me recover my 69 seats w/Houndstooth
covers acouple of years ago and they turned out great .Also if you haven't disassembled your old ones yet pay close attention and take pictures as they come apart.
I'm sure you can do it .:hurray:

the wait time to have my interior done was 3 to 4 months just to get it in the door.
this convinced me to do it all myself, it is a pita but can be done, and done well.

I'm getting ready to redo my 69 SS seats. I found a supplier on the web that offered correct seat covers with the option of having an "SS" embroidered on the seat cover...thought I bookmarked the page, but now I can't find it anywhwere.

Anyone seen these anywhere?

I think that JimM's link says it all. Wish that I'd known about the zip tie trick when I did mind years ago. Can you say SORE FINGERS? Yes, GOOD pair of hog ring pliars mandatory. Also bought a good pair of Craftman wire cutters to cut out all the hog rings that I screwed up.... It did turn out pretty nice I must say, but don't know if I would do it again.. Jim

It was about two years ago to the day when i posted about using zip ties. It was extremely easy to do. I use a very heavy duty zip and they pulled down nice.
JimM thought it sounded good and it appears that he has tried. If you search my ID you may find a posting were I described in detail what i did.

I agree with Jim M magic words= zip ties

I must admit, at first when you posted about using ZipTies, I was skeptical. I think I expressed that in a reply. Something about integrity of the ties after a period of being sat on... etc.

When I got to my second bucket and to the point where the cover has to be PERFECT on the bun before pulling the upholstery down over it, the seams that get pulled down into the foam are a MAJOR pain in the butt. It's critical that they be perfectly adjusted or the rest of the cover is way off.
Trying to get up inside the frame with one hand holding the hog ring pliers, and then push and HOLD the seam material down inside the foam with your other fingers is damn near impossible. And quite painfull! ;)

I found the strongest ZipTies I could, about 8 inches long, and stuck them up through the frame\foam..... cut tiny slots in the seam pull, then looped them back through the foam\frame. They weren't sharp enough to poke through the fabric seam pulls, if I remember correctly.
Worked like a charm!!
That's the only place I used them.... the inner seam pulls. Everything else gets hog ringed.

In order to get the seat covers to slide over the foam easier... slip a plastic trash bag over the foam and then slide the seat cover over the plastic bag... get the seat cover in position then pull and rip the bag out.

Beats the hell out of the old way!!!

Some people will use any excuse to buy a new tool.(ME) You can buy cheap, small bolt cutters, at HF makes easy work of cutting hog rings.
