I'm still in the planning stages of building a PT 69 Z28. I want to go with a 572 CID crate motor, does anyone know if a 572 will even fit in a 69 Z28? If so will it require major modifications to fit it in there? TIA,

From what I have read you will need atleast the 2" cowl hood and custom headers. Not sure the normal big block brackets bolt up either. I think I am going with a 540 for standard deck height. You can get a 540 built with alot more horsepower cheaper. I like the sound of 572 I have to admit.

Initially I was leaning towards a 468 with N20 but I don't want to mess with nitrous on this car, I want to try and keep it as simple as possible.

im building a 540 for my 67. There are guys on Chevelles.com running lots of hi-po 540s that make way more than 620 and 720 hp on pump gas.

My own 540 (pump gas, street car) will hopefully make around 750. Its pretty easy to get a ton of power out of these bigger cube big blocks. for a lot less than the 572 and with a 9.8" deck...

What are you doing to your 67 chassis to strenghten it from twisting with 750 horse? I am looking at options right now for my build.

I have a 99 T/A that makes 500 RWHP N/A, 750 RWHP on the bottle and runs low 9's in the quater which is plenty fast for me so I wanted to keep the motor for the 69 fairly close to stock and run a big cubed motor N/A for street driving and maybe an occasional trip to the track. I'm not familiar with a 540 motor could you please give me a brief run down on the specs, thanks.

weld in subframe connectors, caltracs, solid body bushings, prothane suspension bushings. ive got 275 micky thompson drag radials waiting to go on. rear end is a 9" 3.70 detroit locker, 35 spline, 1350 yoke. Tranny is a little tko 5 speed with mcleod street twin clutch. may change the clutch out to make sure thats the weekest point (compared to tranny) if i hook it up.

9.8" Dart Big M block with Billet caps
Callies Dragonslayer crank
Manley H Beams
Mahle pistons 10.5:1
AFR heads.. either 325 cc with CNC option or 335 fully CNC head.. may mill to up the CR
solid roller in the mid 260s @ 050 and decent lift (still specing that out).

I want it to look like my stock 396/325 motor :)

check out chevelles.com in the performance section. tons of 540s over there.

A 571" standard deck engine can be made too!

4.56" b x 4.375" s = 571"..

I would use a 6.450" long custom rod and needed zero deck height pistons along with a STOCK, 9.8" tall deck height so as long a rod as possible can be ran..

I'm running a 540 4 spd in a 69 RS/SS PT car I'm making right at 635hp & 575 RWHP with 600 Tq. I have to say I love the tq, your going to have to beef the chassie big time to hold all the tq a 540 will make. I've added welded sub frame connectors Lowered the car to about 5 inches rocker clearance which helps plant the power. I'm going to try to use comp slide a links if I can add them without dragging them. But with a 285/50/17 drag radial it's kind of like dry pavement turns to ice real quick, so if your going to run a stroker big block anything be ready for a wild ride.

You may want to rethink the Detroit Locker behind the manual transmission.
I ended up replacing mine with a spool. The problem I had, which is supposedly common, is that during a hard/fast shift, the pressure is released allowing the locker to disengage. Then when you dump the clutch. the Locker doesn't always have time to properly re-engage, and you get a 1-wheel-peel. I experienced this many times, especially at the track.
I'm happier with the spool.

And right on about the twin disc. That's about the only thing that we've seen break a TKO.
