I will likely have my 91 painted this year and was wondering if enamals or laquer paint is actually better and why?

I don't think that anyone sprays lacquer anymore. Didn't the EPA basically outlaw the stuff a few years back??
The base coat clear coat urethane systems that everyone uses now are awesome! They look good and are super durable.
While nothing beats the look of hand rubbed lacquer, it was very easy to chip and not nearly as "street tuff" as the new systems are.

Well, I guess that at least PPG and Sherwin Williams still market lacquer refinish products. It does look like the number of colors is limited though.
I don't think you'll find many jobbers that can still mix the stuff?? My local guy doesn't even sell lacquer thinner in different speeds anymore!!

I would use Urethane. I had a black '87 Camaro that I painted in '91 with single stage urethane. When I sold it a few months ago it still looked great. This is on a car that sat outside. I would wax it every month or two to keep it shiney.
I would say the urethane is almost as easy to work as the laquer, but it is much more durable. I think the base/clear coat would give the best performance.
