I have a '68 with 454 and a TH400 trans. I have been having problems with my speedometer dropping off and after searching this sight I have seen several messages regarding having the cable too far into the speedometer. I looked at what I though was the speedo end of my cable and it has a stop on it so that it will only go so far. My question is this. Is it possible to reverse the speedo cable? Are both fittings the same? Do they have the same thread pattern?

I was Just looking in my Rick's First Gen Catalog and it looks like the cable is reversable but easier to replace. Pg.82 www.firstgen.com. (http://www.firstgen.com.) The catalog is downloadable.

The threads are different on the ends of the cable....transmission end is larger than the speedo end. You COULD pull the center cable out and stick it in the housing the other way, though......be ready for a greasy mess, though!!!
