Sounds similar to mine! Mine has a 3rd week Oct. 1967 build date with paint code ZZ. Before Jan. 1st 1968 that is suppose to be special order paint. I have no documenatation and original motor is gone, but previous owner had it since 1979. Believed to be a L78 396BB car. 4spd, 12 bolt 4:10 gears from factory. Vany nuys car. Had 4 piston brakes on it at one point. Is the small block Original? Would have to be a Z/28 or a SS if this equipment is original to the car. Without documentation or a build sheet it is impossible to confirm this car was either. What's the red line on the tack? I believe only Z/28's and 375H.P. 396 have the 6000 RPM red-line tach. Mine needs floors trunk rockers and quarters. Paid $4000 3 years ago with a running 396 out of a 66 chevelle in it. By todays prices I consider it a steal. Check Ebay lately? Just guessing I would say 8-10K more if there is documenatation! Any idea what original color was? look under package tray, door sill plates, inside doors by the window if weather stripping is shot. Mine was a really odd Non metallic robbins egg blue!

I had a 68 that I bought in Riverside Ca. a few years ago. MREMCHN your car sounds similar to that one. Mine was an original big block car, SS/RS deluxe interior -- paint and 6K redline tic tock tach. Orig engine was gone. I believe it had a similar build date. I'll have to look.

Check build date and see what you find. All my research shows it had to be after Jan.1 1968 to receive -- for special order paint. I thought mine was british racing green until I found this out. When you look it is clear it was light blue originally. Mine has standard interior. Don't mean to hi-jack the thread. Anyone else have a guess? It would help to see pics. I might even be a bit low?

This was a big block 4-speed car
I never could figure out the original color. I never took it apart.
Someone that frequents this board bought the car. Maybe he'll jump in.

Build date 04b tr 712 6k redline tach When did they go to Z28 emblems instead of 302 on the fender? What month? I dont find any evidence of holes in rear panel for a Z emblem. The owner is playing games with taking offers.

It looks like under the weatherstrips it's still a funky orange color being all the weatherstrips are rotted away. I'm thinking it could be an original Z but wrong engine and no deep groove pulleys.

Hey Jack,
I still have the car but haven't been doing much on it the past year. The color was a dark teal metallic color that I think came on full size chevy's but I am not 100% sure. The VIN is L334379.

I ck'd the taillite panel for emblem spaghetti but didn't find any filled holes for z28 emblem. this is a wierd car. it has the muncie speedo cable hole. i thought if it was a l30 saginaw car they all had the left side speedo cable. At any rate this women is playing games with the make offer. If I could get under it and verify the trans and numbers and the 12 bolt codes i would consider making her an offer but she is not going to let that happen.

68's did not have a Z28 emblem on the tail panel... only on the front fenders... (after the change from 302 emblems)

How many leafs in the springs?
Have you checked the tire pressure label in the glove box?

Well if it was a Z the original motor is probably gone, if an SS maybe, but I think it would had to been changed from a BB to a small block with that tach. Something a lot of people did in the 70's when gas got out of hand. More likely, someone switched over the tach and rearend, maybe tranny at somepoint. Let us know if you can get under it to verify numbers. What's the lady doing? Ask her what it takes to buy the car today! If it's reasonable it sounds like at a very minimum your getting some good parts on it!

Also this car has no frame brake valve.
