I am nearing the point where I am going to need a new core support for my '69. I haven't been able to score a decent used one yet. So, I have basically 3 options. Buy an imported repo available for about $80, a USA-made for about $250, or NOS. (With prices of NOS parts going outta-control, this really isnt an option.) This is for a quality driver resto, definately not a show or numbers car!

The question...Has anyone had any issues with the USA-made core supports versus the imported core supports? Are the USA's really that much better or even worth the extra money??

Thanks....Jb

I had a imported repro on my Nova and plan to use one on my Camaro. I didn't have any trouble with the fit or finish, but considering its a radiator support rather than an intricate body panel the repro worked fine. However, if I had a number matching, original car, I would probably opt for the USA made one or the NOS part (assuming the cost wasn't insane).

To me it's just an ugly 'ol radiator support, how much uglier can a repro be?;) Ya- Do What he said........go cheap on that one, they work great..........................007

Johnny B, if you decide to go with a repop, I have a Goodmark rad support that I decided not to use. It's never even been out of the box. I opened the box to make sure it wasn't damaged in shipment, but that's it. Let me know if you are interested. I promise I will sell it cheaper than what you'd pay on eBay or from a repop catalog.

I have heard from a number of restoration shops that unlike the Goodmark fenders, hoods and trunk lids, the rad supports are A-OK. I stumbled across an original GM support for a price a couldn't refuse - after I already purchased the Goodmark piece, naturally.

Thanks guys for the replies. I have to check one more lead on a used one before I decide. But, it looks like imported is the way to go!

Mark, Thanks for the offer  I'll keep you in mind. ....Jb

For comparison purpose - Goodmark is EDP coated, and yes made in Taiwan, but the ones made in the US are electro galvanized steel and some places spray on a primer - EPA stopped US companies from using EDP coating. I use Goodmark in all my rebuilds.

Hey everyone, I recently was in a n accident and I have been doing the labor myself to save money. I bought an aftermarket radiator support to put in, and I get to taking the old one out and realize that the old one has small welds all over the place! How can I take this out? Been done before? Any tips appreciated, thanks.. 2001 camaro

Not true - thousands of companies (including every car/truck assembly plant in the U.S.) use E-Coat (EDP) systems, and have for over 30 years.
