: dumb signs
69camarofast Dec 6th, 06, 10:38 PM i thought i would share this with you guys, last week i happened to have my camera with me, i was traveling back home and had missed the freeway, so at the very next intersection, i got into the turn lane, i then noticed the no u-turn sign, but when you turn left, its a dead end to a shop!,that has the drive way blocked with rail road ties! ..so when the light turned green, i paused in the middle of the intersection of a few seconds, then had to make my u-turn! ...what else to do?!

Everett#2390 Dec 7th, 06, 03:27 AM Apparently, the traffic engineer needs to see this intersection.
SixtyAte Dec 7th, 06, 04:31 AM Between the light pole with the red arrow and telephone pole you will see a road. If you look to the left of that you will see the street sign just above the yellow fire hydrant.

I think you better look again....the road is where the Van is stoped! the sign you are talking about is on top of a stop sign...they dont't put stop signs on the left side of the street:)

the second pic. shows a van comming up to the stop light, he is not stopped still rolling to the cross walk where the light pole on the left of second pic. is..:) ..there is no road, .. this isn't a trick pic. just poor engineering i wonder why no traffic people/cops have corrected this? can you still get a ticket?..no u-turn, but nothing else you can do..unless you have a 4x4 and want to jump a rail road tie:p ..im on the road a lot and have NEVER seen anything like this..
69camarofast Dec 7th, 06, 11:04 AM what city is this in?
Ceres, Ca. from 99 it would be on the west end of freeway about 1 mile on crows landing, interesction of crows landing/school ave.
click Dec 7th, 06, 11:22 AM send those in to Jay Leno's monday funny pics feature. :)
Dayton68Z28 Dec 7th, 06, 11:34 AM I don't even see the street in question on MapQuest???

its right there on your map.:) .look in the middle of your map, follow school ave it dead ends to crows landing..that is the intersection..if you are traveling towards the freeway on crows landing road when you cross school ave look to your left on the map, thats where you cannot make a u-turn but it dead ends..also..:( ..
School Ave is there, just north of Barozzi. Sure looks different than the aerial but you can't get that close...
69camarofast Dec 7th, 06, 11:53 AM so is this a case of breaking the law, for the right reason?..

OK..
I should have said AFTER the pole, beyond the stop sign and in front of the van :waving: I figured you could see the street so I didn't edit my post because I was running late. :o

I see what you are saying Kev but that street on the left is a driveway a cross walk (mini driveway for wheel chair access) and another driveway beyond and into oncoming traffic from the intersection in question.
My guess is the turn lane was left for access into the 2 driveways on the left and the one that lines up with the turn had the RR ties installed later to stop thru traffic from filling the driveway.

with the van still rolling up to the intersection, it looked like it was stopped, but he had not made it all the way up to his line before the light. :) ..has anyone ever seen or has any pics of dumb signs? like this one?
SixtyAte Dec 7th, 06, 03:11 PM Dennis..
I agree it must have been a type of business that required access to their parking lot. A bank, car wash or something that would generate a large amount of traffic which caused the town to put up a turn lane there. Now the current business had to put telephone poles on the ground to stop the cars.

1NAST69 Dec 7th, 06, 06:30 PM Who said that you don't put STOP signs on the left side of the road? We do, we drive on the left down here in the islands!
Needless to say, the car rental agencies are always full of wrecked cars from tourists who forgot!

Camaro Dave Dec 7th, 06, 11:54 PM I think the shop owner put that sign out there to boost his business. :D
67CamaroD Dec 8th, 06, 02:16 AM Took me a while to realize that I drive down that road 5 days a week for the last nine years. Its one block from my work and I never noticed it before. I always go straight so maybe thats why. Not the best area to be after night falls, and seems like a good reason to pull people over who might be up to no good (high percentage). I can get all the pictures you want of the intersection, but it will be almost dark when I go to work and very dark when I get off. I'm kinda mad that you went down the street once and noticed that, and I never have haha.

your right about that section of town, looks bad in the day time.. ..isn't that wierd you read something on Team Camaro, you have driven my there for years, then you see it! was there something there before? or has it always been a dead end to a tire shop?
67CamaroD Dec 9th, 06, 05:47 AM Since I have worked there I am pretty sure it is the same. That is one of the roads in the area that has been here since before I have. Talk to some old truckers and they will tell you how long they have used Crows Landing to cross from I5 to 99 or vice versa. Yea, thats the first time on TC that I saw a picture and said "man I think I know that place from somewhere".
