I'm now getting ready to install the side roof rail weatherstrip on my 67 and have a dilemma. The Fisher body manual refers to a retainer to hold the weatherstrip when it is installed and makes no reference to any other installation method. When I removed the old (I'm pretty sure, original) weatherstrip it was just glued up and did not have a retainer; however, there are the screw holes to attach a retainer. The car was a plain jane 6 with standard interior. Would installation without a retainer been appropriate for the standard interior? Also, does anyone know if the retainers from a 69 would fit the 67? I have ones I removed from a 69. I suspect the vent windows might present a problem.:)

These parts are now being reproduced. Ricks 1st gen has them for $199.95
Their number is 1-800-359-7717 part number is WS-23 and 67 is one yr by itself.

I thought 8 & 9 would be different because of the vent window. Is the stainless really necessary? $200 is a lot of money if its not required and, as I said, it wasn't there when I removed the old weatherstrip.

It may not be necessary but it sure helps to keep the weatherstrip in place to seal the door glass and rear quarter window from outside noise and possible water leaks. There had to be a reason for the factory to install this part

Well I don't think the door and quarter glass will seal correctly without the retainers.
I had 3 of the 4 pieces for my 68 so I bought a used one off of ebay.
The windows push in towards the car to seal more than they press up against the weatherstripping.
