View Full Version : Cutting 67 Quarters and Fenders for marker lamps on my 68

Whomever I purchased my car from put on 67 quarter panels, which is fine as they're the same minus the marker lamps, I haven't even asked my body man, but I assume this is fairly easy to do? (the person who i bought it from was nice enough to include a cut out section of the old quarter with the hole in it for a template)

Same with the front fenders, I just picked up an entire 67 RS front clip, using my old fenders as a template, these should be fairly easy to cut out right?

I'm sure it's easy, but please ease my mind. :)

A good body man can do wonders. I'm sure its been done before. Dont loose sleep over it...although I have seen aftermarket quaters listed seperatly for both 67 and 68. I'm assuming its just the cutout.

thanks, I didn't think it would be a big deal, this guy has been doing restoration for for 30 years, I just wanted to be sure. :)

How's your project comming along?

Getting there...slowly...planning to get it to the shop for paint this early spring. Still have to do alot before then. Winter slows things down but gotta keep chuggin' ...thanks and good luck !

If he even blinks when you tell him pull the car out of that shop and run. That is a VERY basic procedure. In fact, if he has been doing it 30 years he used to do it on NEW 67-68 fenders! I may be wrong, but I don't believe Chevrolet sold 68 only fenders. They sold 67-68 and you cut the holes if it was going on a 67. I do know that I cut a heck of a lot of holes in Fords, Chryslers and GM NEW parts because they didn't have the holes for mouldings, lights and emblems. Some of them (a 68 Olds Delmont 88 comes to mind) had a zillion holes to cut, what a pain.

I will check my assembly manual to see if they have a measurement for the holes. If not, I can measure mine for you.

Hey guys, the 68 markers are easy to do, you won't find dimensions in the assembly manual, but just to make it a little harder for you , don't forget to cut in the astro ventilation holes in the door jambs also. And yes Brian, they did make 68 fenders and quarters, different part #'s and I own a few NOS sets of each.

You've got me here, where exactly are you talking about....where the fender meets firewall? Do you have any pictures of this area, or at least somewhere close.

I'm surprised, I really am. I remember cutting HUGE holes in some big Ford fenders for "cornering lamps". My 65 Gran Sport had a fender replaced very early on, maybe within a few years of production, it was a Gran Sport fender. But a few years later they were all the same and you had to cut the holes for the "gils". I wonder if the Camaro was like that. I had a girlfriend who had a new quarter installed on her 68 Camaro in 1977 but I don't remember if that hole was cut out. I do remember the turkeys at the Chevy dealer spliced it right over the wheel well VERTICALLY!! And they did a strange bend in thingie and brazed it!!! I am not talking a flange joint, we are talking bending each edge in a half an inch or so to make a V shaped canyon and brazing in the bottom!

its really easy all the body man will do is cut them with a diegrinder , and a power file , very easy , it shouldnt be a problem at all, like the others said it is done all the time , good luck with your project , chris

I have a better idea :clonk: Put 69 marker lites in

They look way cleaner, and unless its a #'s car it will be a welcome custom touch. I just did this to a 68 and actually had to weld up the original holes :clonk:

Just an idea ???

I would just leave them off unless it is 100% original I dont like the side marker lights on anything.
