I just got handed this rear.It is a 10 bolt posi multi spring perches axle stamp 5 PV G229 2 looks like cast date is H 12 9 still looking for the casting # it's not where a camaros would be.From what I can tell it still has the original posi unit and gears(2.73) Could this be a Nova rear? And also the stamp doesn't make sense I think that G should be a # or it was stamped before the casting date of H.The guy who gave it to me said he took it out of a 69 camaro Any Toughts?

When you say it wasnt where a Camaros would be, what do you mean? Was it on the drivers side tube instead, and facing the rear?

Stamp was in the right place but casting # wasn't .The cast date was on the side of the pumpkin which I havn't seen before. If it stops raining here I am going to get all the sludge off this thing and look some more for casting #

That code looks to be a late 70's (1979?) 7.5"/7.625" "corporate" axle used on just about every GM rear wheel drive car at the time. I believe the "5" signifies the car line (Chevy, Buick, Olds, etc...), but I don't know which car line that particular number would be. Check out the pictures in THIS PAGE (http://www.novaresource.org/axle.htm) and see if it matches the 7.5"/7.625" (far right picture). I don't see "PV" listed, but this site only lists Nova rear ends.

Thanks Ed. It is the 8.5. Gears are dated 1979 I wonder if my friend will take this piece of junk back.It sure didn't come out of a 69 camaro as it's about 4 inches wider I just saw the PV and knew some camaros had stamps that started with "P"
