Is the light in the AM radio suppose to be on when the car is started? If not what is the correct wiring. Thanks Ken

It only goes on when the radio is on while the ignition on.

The only wiring to the radio is the 12v , Ground and Speaker connectors. Its a black connector a bit over 1" long. If the light does not light with the power on AND the radio does work then the bulb is burnt out. The bulb should be a number
1893 for the radio dial.

When I open the car door the radio lightbulb is off. The radio is also turned off and I start the car. When the car starts...on comes the lightbulb while the radio is off. I can turn the radio on and the lightbulb is still on. Any help???

I believed that it should be off unless the ignition is on or the car is running only when the radio is turned on. They way it is isn't any big deal because it does go off with the key. With only a 12v wire connected to the radio, because the ground is when you bolt it in, there isn't anything to fix. Maybe someone else can offer an answer as to why it stays lit when it is off.

The radio is a one wire system that works off the ignition. If the key is on or the car is running, the radio has power. This radio is working this way. What is not the normal here is that the radio light is always on. It should not light up until the on/off knob on the radio is turned on.

Someone connected the radio light to the instrument lights to make it look better at night. I've done this in the past since I never actually used the radio but liked it to light up.

I checked the 12v wire from the back of the radio...it leads up behind the dash and over the steering column to the fuse panel. It plugged into the battery slot on the panel. Does anyone know if this is correct or perhaps in another slot?

I am at work today...I remember on the right side of the fuse panel there are (6) connectors. (2) are at the top (1) vertical, (1) horozontal, ACC fused, Lamps, IGN fused and BAT fused. My radio is in the BAT fused. Which is the Radio Accessory plug...is it the ACC fused. Many thanks Ken
