A few years back i installed 80% quarters on my 68 convertible by buttwelding them down the side.New inner and outer wheelhouses and a new tail pan. I was never crazy about the quarter install with the seam, the filler and all. Now the car is almost ready for prime, block and paint. Now that the full convert quarters are available i am seriously considering buying two new full quarters and a new tail pan and redoing them. Am I nuts? What would you do?

Alot of supplyers show the convertible quarters in there catalogs or web sites but don't have them in stock and could not say when they would be in. I think that I heard some ware that the tooling was getting changed or moved not shure. I did find two for my 68 convert from D&R classics last spring.

No your not nuts my car had 80%'s put on a long time ago and I could just redo the body work but I'm going to buy full's when I can save up the money I cant work do to a bad back so it might take some time but If you have the money I would buy the full quarters.
But if I can ask why do you need another rear pan arnt they just pinch welded together shouldent you be able to save them and re use them?

Yes, you are nuts.
My car got 80% quarters before I got it, maybe 7-10 years ago? You cannot see that seam, it just ain't there. it wasn't there on the cruddy paint the bozo's put on it before I got it, and it's not there on the new paint either. If you did it right, it will be fine.

Just do it right and it'll be ok.

I vote your nuts if you take off the 80% 1/4's. If some snotty fellow car guy or gal (I know I've been one once) gives you a hard time about the 80%ers, thats their problem. Too many people are quick to say "it's not done right" without full 1/4's. Is it going to be a 1000 point gold show winner? If not I say leave it and enjoy it. Spend the money else where.

What ever you do, good luck! and have fun.

We put 80% quarters on a 68 about 10 years ago and they still look good and you cant see the seam.
