View Full Version : Anyone else get a letter from GM 1969 Camaro Dude Dec 10th, 06, 03:09 PM On the 2002 Camaro with 5.7L V8 engine pertaining to the catalytic converter? It dosen't say what the problem is or how to detect it. Anyone have any idea what the problem is? Thanks SixtyAte Dec 10th, 06, 05:23 PM A copy found on the internet. .................................................. .................................................. .... This letter is intended to make you aware that some 2001 model year Chevrolet Camaro vehicles, equipped with a 5.7L V8 engine, may have failure of the left or right catalytic converter. This is not a recall. Do not take your vehicle to your Chevrolet dealer as a result of this letter unless you believe that your vehicle has the condition as described above. What We Have Done: General Motors in providing owner with additional protection for the right and left catalytic converters. If this condition occurs on your 2001 Chevrolet Camaro within 10 years of the date your vehicle was originally placed in service or 120,000 miles (193,000 km), whichever occurs first, the condition will be repaired for you at no charge. What You Should Do: Repairs and adjustments qualifying under this special coverage must be performed by a General Motors dealer. You may want to call the service department at your dealer to find out how long they will need to have your vehicle so that you may schedule the appointment at a time that is convenient for you. This will also allow your dealer to order parts if they are not already in stock. Keep this letter with your other important glove box literature for future reference. The letter goes on to say about reimbursement and how you should mail them a claim form (that was included with the letter) with a receipt. .................................................. .................................................. ..... I gather that this means that if you paid for new converters or need them to be replaced you will be reimbursed by GM. Kev 1969 Camaro Dude Dec 10th, 06, 05:53 PM Yep thats the letter I got but mine states 2002 Camaro. Prolly because they know I own a 2002. I have no idea if my catalytic converter is bad or not. It run ok and no check engine light so it must be alright. Z28 Mark Dec 10th, 06, 07:47 PM I too receive the letter about the catalyst converters on my 2001 Z28. I purchased it second hand and just after I bought it the cats went bad and I had to have both replaced at a cost of $625 to me and the car had 80,250 miles on the odometer… just out of warranty. I’m trying to find the receipt but I can’t find it… I’m going to go back to the muffler shop and explain it to them and see if I can get a copy… this was back it January / February off 2004. There is also another guy in the club that has a 2001SS SLP equipped Camaro that had the cats go bad at about 25,000 miles and it was done under warranty by Chevy / GM. CBluum7 Dec 15th, 06, 01:56 PM I received the letter too. I know a guy who works at a GM dealership and he told me two years ago about this. I was telling him about the code my check engine light was bring up and he told me I could have the converter replaced for free. I took it down to the dealership and had it replaced free of charge. If you own a camaro within the years they are talking about, check engine light on or not, you can get a brand new converter put on. Z28 Mark Dec 19th, 06, 06:53 PM I sent the letter in w/ all the documents from my local muffler shop and I’ll see what happens. I sure could use $625 for all the Xmas bills that I have racked up. Wish me luck…. 1969 Camaro Dude Dec 20th, 06, 12:40 PM Good luck:thumbsup: :hurray: Z28 Mark Dec 20th, 06, 02:39 PM I just got a call from GM… They are going to honor my request for the refund for the full amount of $626.40.
