Had a buddy of mine call me today. He was looking at a 68 camaro, he wanted me to run the numbers. The person selling the car was trying to sell it as a z-28. I told him the #'s on the cowel tag would'nt tell him. So I told him to make shure it had a 12 bolt in it , if it did I told him to get the axle code, along with the tranny code (M-21 or M-22) and vin, check for disc brakes. There is no motor. Is there any other way to check this car to see if its a z. He did'nt say anything about any paper work.

Only with the original block or tranny with the partial VIN stamped on them. Or a paper trail as you said. A 15" tire sticker on the glovebox would be a big clue. Another clue is 4 leaf rear springs. Most Z's had 4 and most SS had 5 leafs. The other clues could indicate SS also.

first look for the obvious signs. is it a column shift? also check n see if its a muncie car.(hole in firewall near dist for speedo cable) its about a 1inch hole.it also should have holes in the back for rear bumper gaurds if the gaurds arent there. is there any evidence of z stripes?

Norwood or LA car?
IF LA, the top of the cowl would be the stripe color
