When I get around to restoring the interior of my 68 vert I plan to send my dash out to Just Dashes to refurbish it. My car is ash gold with ivy gold interior. The dash is a very dark green. I plan to change the color of the car to rallye green but leave the interior ash gold (which looks pea green to me anyway). The car did not come with a console so I'm looking at buying an after market one which all come black. What color should I paint the console? I'm think about having Just Dashes match it to the dark green dash. Would that be correct? Then if I get one of those after market gage cluster for the console (the kind that hold 4 round 2 1/6 gages) should it be painted to match the console also?

What year? In 67 the sides of the console matched the interior color and the top was black.

What color is your carpet and headliner? I don't know how valid this is for '68s or every color but do know in '69 some interiors came all the same color others didn't. So if your gold interior had gold carpet and headliner then the dash, steering column, steering wheel, console and seatbelts would be gold. that's how my 1st '69 was back in the '70s - red car, red wheels with dog dish hubcaps - red interior, everything - carpet, headliner, console, seats, etc etc... Then I have seen red cars with red seats, black carpet and headliner, dash console etc...

Since you are installing aftermarket gauges I wouldn't worry about getting the console color correct for the car. Do what you think looks best.

I'm not sure what the color of the headliner in a convertible is :). The carpet is ash gold as well as the lower dash and sun visors. I think the post pillar moldlings are the same dark green as the dash but I could be wrong. I'm at work right now and the car's at home.

LOL didn't know it was a ragtop... I am paying more attention to the 2 color interior now. I don't think that's correct. If you had a gold carpet and seats you got a gold dash, pillar posts etc. There would be no green in the interior...

Mine sat out in the rain for years with a hole cut in the roof. There was plenty of green in my interior that wasn't supposed to be green ;)

Console is gold colored in 721, 722 and 723 coded interiors.

Where do I find that interior code for my car and a list of what was available in 68? As for the dash pad being dark green, it is almost black and I would bet it's never been off the car. Maybe the pad was not gold on a vert?

Here is a site that will help you decode your trim tag. There is a picture of a trim tag on the first page. You can get to the decoding for a 68 by clicking on 1968 at the bottom of the page.

http://www.holisticpage.com/camaro/parts/trimtag.htm

I do not even see a green interior listed for a 68.

Here's another...

After 40 years it's hard to tell what's orig to a car and what isn't... If the dash pad is green it's been recovered or painted/dyed.

the 68 gold colored interiors (some call them ivy gold) tend to change to a greenish color over time.

Here is a ebay 68 Camaro Gold over Gold with only 30k miles... check out the interior... it is pristine survivor... if I had a high end 68 with gold guts... I would have bought the car just for the interior.

That's my car except I'm a vert. I wish I knew how to paste a pic of that interior. Do you see the difference in the color of the dash pad and pillar post moldings? They are a dark green compared to the interior. But now I see what a console should look like.
Dang I'm tempted to see if that car is still available. I wonder what it wuld cost to get it shipped to St. Louis, Mo

It went through ebay a few times and no saled... if it were not all the way across the country I would have bought it just to have something so nice and original.
