I checked in to that today. The tec said he would have to drill a hole for his equipment behind the tail light to get to the dent.A HOLE???:( clwilcox33 Dec 13th, 06, 04:00 PM tell him there are plenty of holes behind the tail light on your car that it shouldn't need a new one :) martins 68 Dec 13th, 06, 04:14 PM anybody ever seen this done rszmjt Dec 13th, 06, 04:39 PM Quote "anybody ever seen this done" Yep, up here in Canada we get a lot of it done because of hail. A friend has a 2006 SS truck, and it got hailed the 2 nd day he had it. Approx. 30 dents in the hood and about the same in the roof. I took out the roof liner and hood pad and sent it over to painless dent. Those guys should get paid more for what they do, becuase let me tell you it was perfect!!!! Even under the shops high sodium lites which are very critical. If i had not known it, i would have sworn someone repainted the truck. Amazing!!! They use all sorts of little wierd pry bars with plastic tips and felt pads etc. They never had to drill any holes in the bracing, dont know what your guy is talking about unless there is something he just can not get at. Maybe get a second opinion. Lost in the 60's Dec 13th, 06, 05:57 PM How does that work? I checked in to that today. The tec said he would have to drill a hole for his equipment behind the tail light to get to the dent.A HOLE???:( Call around, some of them here want to drill holes too, but the one I had do the work never drills holes...they use existing openings in the panels. I think it is a franchise....I'll have to look them up.....memory lapse.:( Nope no franchise...he has 3 locations here in the Twin Cities. Keep looking...you'll find one that doesn't drill holes. Dan Schoenecker Dec 13th, 06, 07:39 PM In the Milwaukee, WI area we have Dr. Dent. They use what looks like huge screw drivers with ends bend about 35 degrees with blunt ends. They work the metal in a circular motion and actually shrink it back to its original shape. One would never know the car had been touched. Great way to go. FrankenChevy Dec 14th, 06, 08:37 AM My daily driver got hammered by hail in the spring (hood, roof, quarters, trunk deck, etc) and the insurance company agreed to waive the deductable if I allowed it to be repaired with the PDR (paintless dent removal) system. I agreed to it and they did a great job (and I'm very picky). I can't tell that it was ever damaged. I saw the bill and it was about $2200 to get it fixed...as opposed to the $6500 quoted to replace and repaint. This was the better option (IMO)... the car is 7 years old, never been wrecked and has the original paint that is in great shape. I would highly recommend this system provided you find someone that can do a good job. I think that they will need access to the backside of the damaged area but I would think that if it is over the wheelwell on the rear quarter that they could get to it via the trunk or through the inside rear panel. I would keep checking to see if you can find someone that can do it without drilling a hole... it sounds to me like they are trying to take the easy way out (by drilling a hole). That's just my two cents. 69cama Dec 14th, 06, 10:18 AM The only hole needed should be when the trunk lid is opened. I also want to say that some of these guys are artists when it comes to PDR. Some are better than others when it comes to a finished product. My friends Silverado roof and hood were beat with 200 plus dents and it came out flawless. Not a single flicker from any angle with good light. I am one of the pickiest people on the planet but I was sold on this procedure after that. I have not seen any old Camaro sheetmetal straightened but I am sure some can do it. |
